  • Finale changes automatically the instrument selected

    Hello!

It is the first time that I try vsl with finale 2014, I have Vienna Special edition Vol 1 and I have installed the special editions mapping into vienna that seems to work correctly.

However, i have a score (piano + strings), i have composed everything perfectly with vienna and everything seemed to work fine. I saved my project and while opening again, two of my instrumets got bugged, my viola even if you select viola on the ensemble when you click the play button instantly changes to the patch of the violin on vienna, and my bass also changes to a violin.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

I am using cubase with finale (rewire) and if I open both there is no problem but if I open finale alone it is.

  • Hello Javipotter71!

I would check the channel settings in the Finale Score Manager and in Vienna Ensemble. Maybe you have a mismatch there.

  • Oh, am sorry I forgot to say that the channels in ensemble and vienna match perfectly.

my process is, I open cubase in order to open rewire, after that I open the finale file, and everything works perfectly, if in ensemble i have selected a contrabass it sounds as a contrabass, if I have a viola it sounds a viola... However when I close everything and open just finale, viola and contrabass got bugged and even if you select the instrumets when you click on play they change both to a violin (it is like if there was any kind of keyswitch or something) it does not matter at which measure you play they change all the time to violin.

As an extra information, if I export midi from finale to cubase and I open ensemble in cubase, it also does the same, it changes automatically to violin it is like if there was any kind of keyswitch selected by default or something.

Thank you for your response Andi!

  • Hello again!

I'm a bit confused. Do the Finale instruments trigger the correct channel in Vienna Ensemble during playback, but the wrong patches? Or do the Finale instruments trigger the wrong channel in Vienna Ensemble? Maybe you can add screenshots of the Socre Manager and one of the instruments in Vienna Ensemble that go wrong.

    Best,
    Andi

  • The first one, I mean Finale instruments trigger the correct channel in Vienna Ensemble during playback, but the wrong patches. I am sure the channels are correct because the viola plays what it has to play but instead it does it with violin patch:

    Before playing:

    While pressing play button:

Ive just noticed that cello also makes the same mistake, so my problem is in viola, cello and bass.

  • I can see on your screenshots that you have loaded the presets that include all string sections. You will only need the matrices that include the respective instruments though. For some reason the E7 switch gets sent to Vienna Ensemble which makes the double basses switch to the violin matrix. I would simply remove the other matrices and only leave the double bass matrix in the preset. If you have the same problem with the violas, I would only leave the viola matrix there.

    Best regards,
    Andi
