  • Logic 10.5 + VSL 7

    Hi

Any logic users found out if there is any major advances in building large templates with VSL EP7? I see the track count is now up to 1000 which is a bit more sensible.

  • Instrument Chanel count was bumped to 1000 in version 10.4.5 I haven’t yet found anything improved In 10.5 related to vepro7. Some AU3 bugs continue to exist. By the way, you can have way more then 1000 tracks in logic if you want, the limit you referred to is the number of instrument channels. By using multi-Instruments it is possible to have many thousands of tracks if you want

  • It's allready difficult to mix well 48 tracks,

It should be hell to mix a 1000 tracks

How can you do that ?

Do you put a note per track ?

There are not a 1000 instruments in an orchestra ?

    Read this :
    http://theidiomaticorchestra.net/14-orchestra-size-and-setting/

"A modern full-scale symphony orchestra consists of approximately one hundred permanent musicians, most often distributed as follows: 16–18 1st violins, 16 2nd violins, 12 violas, 12 cellos, 8 double basses, 4 flutes (one with piccolo as a specialty), 4 oboes (one with English horn as a specialty), 4 clarinets (one with bass clarinet as a specialty, another specializing in high clarinets), 4 bassoons (one with double bassoon as a specialty). In theory, all woodwind players are expected to be able to play all auxiliary instruments in addition to their main instrument. Furthermore 5–8 horns, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones (one with bass trombone as a specialty), 1 tuba, 1 kettledrum player, 3–4 percussionists (of whom at least one must also play kettledrum), 1–2 harps and a keyboard player (piano, celesta, harpsichord, etc.).

Musicians mastering instruments such as saxophone, guitar, bass oboe (heckelphone), ondes martenot, synthesizer, etc., usually do not have a permanent position, but are engaged for special projects or concerts. Similarly, extra players are engaged when a score calls for extended brass, percussion, etc.

  • Some people need or want more tracks in order to create large templates.  Nobody needs to actually mix 1000 tracks at once.

I also tend to agree with you though that LogicPro simply does not scale well with more than maybe a few hundred tracks...regardless of how many you're using at once, becuase it doesn't have great nested folder features, nor track searching, etc..  You can hide and unhide and do a few things, but I find it rather unmanageable to deal with a lot of tracks in logicPro...just because it becomes hard to find what you're looking for or have a reasonable list of things to look at and keep track of, or group things together that you're actually using.  I am actually not terribly impressed with the way any of the DAW's manage large track counts for large templates.  I don't think many peopel need to work that way so they aren't too motivated to improve upon it, but with nearly all of them I feel its kind of like having a 1000 page book with all pages open at the same time.  Overwhelming to deal with when you have more then a few dozen tracks.  At least for me.  that's why I still can't bring myself to making a large template, but if I were a working pro I might feel differently in the name of getting things done quickly.

  • Lucky me I have on my Macpro with 4 x 26" screens so you can see 48 tracks in Logic with no problem and about a 100 tracks in VE PRO if I minimize them

I started to mix this 48 tracks project on a MacBook Pro, I was getting crasy !

How could you mix a 1000 tracks, you cannot have 200 screen connected to a MacPro

Have you see a Mixing Table with 1 000 tracks ?

At the moment there is a competition on the number of tracks, it's the sampe competition that there is on the length of the 3rd leg πŸ˜Š    LOL

  • The biggest benefit for using VEP7 with Logic in my experince, is that because Logic is so full of bugs and crashes so frequently, VEP7 significantly reduces project re-load time whenever this happens.
