  • VEP 7 and Roland Cloud

Hi, has anyone figured out how to get Roland Cloud synths to work in VEP 7?

I am getting blank screen for AU and the VST versions just don't show up.

Been trying to make this combo work for over 2 years now, going back to VEP 6 at least.  ProTools loves the Roland but I'd prefer to have VEP do the heavy lifting.

    Thanks for any advice!

  • I have the problem on Macintosh as well.  Roland Cloud plug-ins (with the exception of Concerto) show up with with a blank screen with AU versions.  VST versions are not available at all.  I have Vienna Ensemble 6.5 but have also tried the demo of version 7 with the same results.  Those cloud plug-ins are nice but cpu hungry.  It would help if the plug-ins would instantiate in Vienna Enemble Pro!

  • Hi,

This has been on our to-do list for quite a while. I'll investigate.

  • I appreciate the response Paul.  The Roland Cloud plug-ins inside Vienna Ensemble on Mac will generate audio without problems but without a gui they are not useful.  I hope the gui issue can be solved.  Otherwise, Vienna products have been trouble free for me and very effective.  Thanks again for looking into this!

  • I have found a workaround using Blue Cat Audio Patchwork as a "wrapper". It's a cheap fix. If you decide to purchase this:

    1. Use the AU version of this plugin on the slave machine inside VE Pro.

    2. Choose the Patchwork Synth instantiation.

    3. Select the "wrapper" preset. I also save this as a "user default" so that I can skip this step in subsequent instantiations.

    4. Choose the AU version of the Roland Cloud Plugin of your choice.

Roland Cloud plugins are CPU hungry. I upgraded my VEP license after years of not using it, just to offload my Roland Cloud plugins. I was mortified when I couldn't get them to work, but happy that I figured out this workaround. Hopefully this is fixed soon without the workaround.

  • Hey there,

I pinged Roland about the issue of Roland Cloud synths not working in VEP and got this response today. It would appear they are not pursuing the fix on their end, even though their website says:

    Q. What are the minimum system requirements for Roland Cloud?
    A. MacOS 10.9 or Windows 7 SP1, and a 64-bit DAW or plug-in host that supports VST, AU or AAX instrument plug-ins.

    Here is Roland's response:

Sorry, we don't test with or support Vienna Ensemble Pro. Anecdotal evidence from the field suggests that it does not work well, if at all, with the Roland Cloud plug-ins.
