  • Using the Resonance Menus in Vienna Suite Pro

    Hello,

I'm confused on how to use the resonance menu presets in the equalizer section of Vienna Suite Pro. The resonance presets are not activated by default and you have to click on each section for activation. The manual says that they filter out unwanted resonances.

For example, one of the English Horn resonance menus has 8 numbers running across the horizontal bar and you have to activate each of them. What is the best practice? Should I activate all of them? I'm just not sure which sections I should activate. I'm really not able to hear a difference no matter which ones I select.

    Thank you,

    John Swearingen

  • Hi John,

nothing wrong with leaving things alone as long as they don't disturb you. :-)

I created these "menus" (for lack of a better term) for those cases where you suddenly realize that there's a certain harmonic in an instrument's performance which takes too much space. The definition of "too much" is up to you, of course, and it depends on the context as well as on your personal taste and needs whether a harmonic is simply part of the instrument's rich sound, or rather an acoustic annoyance.

My suggestion: As long as you don't hear the difference, don't use these presets.

    All the best,

  • Makes sense. Thank you!

  • You're welcome!

Something I should add to my previous posting: These "menu" frequency cuts aren't meant to be used all at the same time. I have tried to collect the most typical offenders for specific Vienna Instruments (i.e. don't use them for other sources than the ones the preset names imply). The suggested usage is to switch the suggested frequency bands off and on while listening to the (hopefully positive) effect.
