Hi folks,
Can anyone explain why my VI Special Edition volume 1 and 1 PLUS take around 80 GB of space on any HD or SSD (it was DVD delivery many years ago), but now I see on VSL site for the same libraries "installed size" is 27 GB and 11.5 GB accordingly? Did I get more samples/articulations? Or modern libraries just use compressed samples? Spread some light on this question, please.

thanks for the fast reply. Still, I don't understand - there is a download size and install size.
For example, VI SE Vol 1 - Download File Size 15.9 GB, Installed File Size 27.0 GB
VI SE Vol 1 PLUS - Download File Size 5.4 GB, Installed File Size 11.5 GB
After download, both of them together are 21.3 GB, after installation 38.5 GB
My two libraries are 80 GB. Does it mean that modern Vienna Instrument or Vienna Ensemble, whatever, can play highly compressed files? Of course, I hope my library is larger - at that time it cost a fortune :)

Your calculations are correct... maybe you can post screenshots of the actual data you have in your sample content folders.

Cool! I just watched your videos about the Synchron player. It is definitely worth a crossgrade. When you investigate my libraries from inside let me know your final opinion on what is the best upgrade/crossgrade for me. Will I have any benefit if I buy VI PRO 2 and stay with my old libraries or better to move to the above-mentioned crossgrade?

Finally.
Took me a while to brush up my memory. The original Special Editions consisted of:
- SE Volume 1 Standard Library (now Volume 1)
- SE Volume 2 Extended Library (now Volume 2)
We always installed BOTH collections, so that you could easily extend your collection anytime (and don't have to insert your DVD once again.
Things changed since 2008, and now those volumes are available separately, so the downloads will be smaller than the data you installed from DVD.
In other works: If you got yourself the licenses for VI SE Vol 2 and VI SE Vol 2 PLUS, you'd be ready to go by just adding those licenses.

If I understand right, it means I have an occupied place of 80 GB but I use only around 40 GB. To use another 40 GB of samples I have to pay extra 295+265=560 EURO, In this case, I have to stay with a free version of VI and VE or to spend at least 55 EURO to get the advantages of VI PRO 2.
On the other hand, I was fairly happy with that 40 GB. It was enough for my purposes. So, for 87 EURO I can crossgrade to Synchronized vol. 1 and 1 PLUS to get all that humanization tools, the ambience of Synchron Stage Vienna, some extra instruments, and if I can't live without vol. 2 and vol. 2 PLUS I can wait for Christmas or Black Friday or any other reason to get a good discount. BTW, do you have a discount time? If yes which one is the best one? :)

On VSL site mentioned size for Synchron-ized vol.1
Sample Amount 66,571 Download File Size 21.2 GB Installed File Size 63.6 GB
and for Synchron-ized vol. 1 PLUS
Sample Amount 38,159 Download File Size 4.1 GB Installed File Size 12.4 GB
Does it mean that ALL 104730 of samples and ALL 76 GB of data will be available for use with crossgraded licenses? Or maybe this amount includes something for another license?

Thanks a lot for your replay and explanations here and by PM. Already paid for the upgrade. Wanted to buy EPIC 2.0 but saw the note "you have to buy separate EPIC 2.0 only if you are planning to get an additional license". So, I need confirmation again. If I prefer to work in my DAW and open each instrument or section in its own Synchron player (generally speaking I wanna rid off of VE and VI), then whether the EPIC 2.0 library will work in the same manner, just in Synchron VST plugin instance for an open instrument or section?

I can't really follow, but maybe this helps:
You always get the Epic Orchestra 2.0 for free with the first license of VE Pro 7.
I see you have already checked out this software - and it is a great tool for more efficient work on music.
I have made walkthrough videos for all sections of EO 2.0, those will give you a good impression.
