  • [SOLVED] Synchron Player SSD Loading Issues

    Hi,

I started experiencing issues with the Synchron Player. The sound chokes and sometimes does not even trigger the instrument from the MIDI data on the track. The player gives me an indication under the performance window (the chip icon) flashing in red. When I open it, I see a Hard Drive icon flashing in red. I know my speeds are good as I check my drives regularly. Streaming off an SSD on a USB 3.0 bus.

Any suggestions to improve the performance and correct the issue will be appreciated!

    Regards,

    -Zahari Shtonov

  • This is the same problem I'm having. See the thread titled 'Installation'.

  • Thanks, Oceanview!

Seems like we are experiencing similar behaviour on the performance, but different reasons I think. I am running everyting latest and only started happening as I ran larger pojects which stream from other dedicated SSD drives (on the same USB Bus though). I played with some settings too, like preload size, number of streams etc. but it makes no difference. Restarting the Cubase project makes them play for a bit untill all tracks kick in on all cylinders. I hope someone from VSL chimes in here.

    Cheers!

  • I just noticed that many of the products have been updated just yesterday. I am about to download them and install them all, including the Synchron Player. I see also updates for Synchron Pianos, VEPPro 7 (also 6), and even the VI Pro. Let's see if these updates will fix the issue.

[EDIT] I have updated all of the above products with their latest versions. I still am experiencing performance issues. I have set the Database preload time to 4096 (that was the default anyway), I've also tried 8192 but with the same results so I went back down. The speed indicated there is 98.5 MB/s. Under Engine, I have set the Preload Size to 8192 samples. The Streaming and the Loading Threads are at their default values of 4. I've tried placing them at 6 yesterday but it didn't make any difference.

I also wonder why the speed to the volume path is different than my BlackMagic Design Speed Test diagnostic app reports which is 380-390 MB/s read & write.

I am hosting the Synchorn Player within Cubase 10.5. I am going to try hosting the instruments within VEP Pro 7 and see if that handles things better.

  • OK,

I ran some tests with an average project size with several different libraries from all over, including VI Pro and other Synchron Player instruments too. The patch that gives the trouble is from the <<Epic Orchestra 2>> (EO2), the Synchron Strings FX. I have loaded the Vertical Trem patch and that's the one in question. Last night all other Synchron Player based instruments in the project were experiencing the problem.

Today, I've offloaded the EO2 patch to VEP Pro 7. Things seemed to work fine. Then I loaded onto an Instrument track instead using the VE Service 6.5. With the patch offloaded like that all other instances of SY Player seemed to operate fine with no hickups.

I noticed also that if the VE Service is not the forgound application, the sound gets sometimes choppy until you switch it to be on the front. Then you can go back to Cubase and it will be fine for a while. I wonder if this is just a bug with this particular String patch from EO2. I will continue to monitor things here.

  • Hello ZWaves,

Thanks for taking the trouble to post your detailed accounts of trouble-shooting. I'm not using the Epic Orhcestra at all, so that won't apply in my case. I'm also only using Sibelius and the Vienna players, not Cubase or any DAW software. I have my problem with the Synchronized versions of the SE+ and the Solo Strings. I use VIPro, V Ensemble. Your word 'choke' in your first post exactly describes the sound I get from all samples in the Synchron Player.

I last updated the software at the weekend.

Good luck. Hope Vienna can figure this out.

  • Hi,

I ran some more tests. I can confirm that the behavior is pretty sporatic. It started happenning all over the place again. It is most noticable on instruments that are playing long and sustain samples. I also have several Synchron SE+ patches in this particular project plus that one string patch from the Epic Orchestra 2.0.

None of the other tracks are experincing the slightest problem and I have plenty of firepower to go on this system. I am certainly looking forward to see what might be causing this issue and hopefuly fix it soon!

  • [SOLVED] Synchron Player Loading Issues

I've had a few e-mail exchanges with VSL's tech support. We've determined that disabling the ASIO guard for each of the VSL plug-ins in Cubase's Plug-in Manager completely resolves the problem! Now the Synchron libraries are back to normal with no performance issues at all!

    Thank you, VSL!

  • I don't use Cubase, only SIbelius. So is this fix something that applies to my set-up and if so, how. Is this applicable to any ASIO card? I'm on Windows 7 64-bit. Thanks.

  • Hi Oceanview,

ASIO Guard has nothing to do with Sibelius.

Did you try to increase the Preload time in your Synchron Player Settings => Database?
