  • eLicenser not found while opening a Logic project, Mac frozen

    Hi,

Not the first time it happens, so this is repeatable. I launched Logic on a Mac with High Sierra. Then opened a project containing several Synchron Player instruments. Logic took some time, then the usual eLicenser missing message appeared.

I disconnected the eLicenser, connected it again, the clicked Retry in the message. Logic was no longer responding.

I tried to quit it. Then force quit it, but it couldn't be closed even this way.

I then tried to restart the Mac. No way: Logic, frozed, prevented shutdown.

I had to use the hardware power button to turn the Mac off and on.

If there is some log I can send you to see if you can understand what happened, I'll do.

    Hi Paolo,

Please try with this eLicenser version. Uninstall with the Uninstaller you find when you open the file, then install this older version.

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

In the meantime a new version of the eLicenser software was released (6.11.10.2269, June 5), and I installed that.

Unfortunately this major issue persists. I launch Logic and open a project. If the eLicenser can't be found by its software, Logic stops loading the project, while the eLicenser error message persists.

After disconnecting and reconnecting the key, and closing the error message, Logic seems to go on, but the Synchron Player says it can't find any content.

When quitting or force-quitting Logic (10.4.8), the program refuses to really quit. The Finder may also refuse to be relaunched. Giving command to shutdown or restart the Mac (High Sierra) freezes it during shutdown, and you can only force power off.

This is the most dangerous operation on the Mac, since you may leave system file writing open. As of now, the Mac has restarted, warning of the problem, and recovering the previous situation. But may be very dangerous.

The eLicenser software seems not to generate a log that I can access, so there is no way to see what happened.

  • Hi Paolo,

The newest eLicenser only contains an updated database... no other changes, AFAIK.

Did you try my suggestion? Any difference?

    Best,
    Paul

Not yet. I was still trying the new one. I'll install the one you linked, and see what happens.

By the way, Paul: this older version seems to be 32-bit, so the system says it is deprecated. I don't know if this can cause issues.

  • Just a partial update, after installing the old version of the eLicenser Control software (after completely uninstalling the newer one).

Logic didn't recognize the key when launching. I disconnected and reconnected the key. When Logic completed the boot, the Synchron Player instances were there, but couldn't play (even by playing their integrated keyboard).

Quit and relaunch Logic, everything worked fine. All played with no problems.

I've not yet tried to restart the Mac, to see if there are problem while shutting down, but I'll update about this later. In the meantime, the behaviour is more promising.

  • Another update: it happened again. The eLicenser Control software is the same older one indicated by Paul, the OS the same, Logic the same.

Launch Logic, error message saying the key can't be found. Quit Logic, try to restart the Mac, and the Finder remains stuck while shutting down. The only solution is force-power off with the dedicated hardware button.

At this point, I'll sadly retry with the most recent software, hoping this serious problem will be solved with one of the forthcoming versions. I just hope no to lose my drive with these forced reboots.

  • Hi Paul,

Since with the current eLicenser Control software version I've a lot of issues, I'll try again with the old, 32-bit one you suggested. Maybe it was a bit less problematic.

Is there a reason why the older one should work more reliably?

It seems the old version no longer works. This is the log of the crash I have when trying to do maintenance to the key.

EDIT: After restarting the Mac, the eLicenser CC started working again. I could do maintenance.
