  • Paul et al., It's Time To Reword the Manual

Dear Paul and all of VSL

Let's talk terminology. For some reason I had gotten it in my head that VSL had joined many of us in the tech world in moving away from the Master/Slave terminology to Client/Server (or Host/Server). While seeing the usual discussions taking place elsewhere, I came over here to grab proof from the latest manual, but lo-and-behold-- it still uses the terms Master/Slave.

Now, I'm sure a bunch of rotund mouth-breathing conservatives are going to see this post and say "the liberals are at it again." Do you really care about what these people think? You seem like good people. It's an easy fix! Go for it. Your product is such an integral part of the media composer landscape, think of the impact you could make!

I mean the typo "vomputer" appears in the latest manual anyway, so you need to hop in and fix that anyway. While you're there, make a statement.

    Thanks

P.S. If this post offends anybody, you can kick rocks. I'm not here to waste time debating you, just raise the issue.

  • Hi,

I have actually discussed this topic a few times and I agree with you. We are updating the VE Pro manual right now anyway.

Will see to it that this is changed in time, from "slave computer" to "networked computer" or "client".

    Best,
    Paul

  • More than a matter of liberals vs conservatives, I see the original post problematic for how aggressive and threatening it is. It is also accusing VSL of supporting slavery and oppression, despite their collaboration with artists of all kind, ethnicity and belief (either liberal or conservatives).

While the topic may be of interest, I see the way it is posed totally out of place here, ill-educated, and offensive. The OP may not be interested in offending the others, but it is common sense that whoever behaves this way should be out of the community.

  • Hi guys,

It's all fine. This has been on my list for quite some time.

    Peace. Respect. Tolerance.

  • That’s great to hear Paul, not surprised and anticipate sharing this change. @Paolo: sorry you feel that way. I see it as encouragement, don’t know which part you read as remotely “threatening” and absolutely nowhere did I accuse VSL or Paul of supporting slavery, good god! (are you trying to out-faux-outrage here or something?) There is a two-sentence derision towards typical conservative dissent on this topic as an assurance of support— and I feel zero shame in disregarding regressive perspective outright on this topic. If that’s the part that upsets you, your priories are questionable at best.

  • Gentlemen:

I'd like to repeat the important part of my answer:

    Peace. Respect. Tolerance.

    Have a great sunday, everybody!
