Hi,

With the new Macs running on a new family of chips, I wonder if all the VSL software will be ported, or will have to be run in emulation under Rosetta.

If we purchase an ARM Mac at the end of this year, will we be able to run VSL libraries and software effectively?

I'd also like to have some info about that directly from VSL.

Do you expect to port your existing software to the new Apple Silicon platform?

I assume VSL aren't in a position to comment, as it was only announced yesterday.

I'm interested to hear what Steinberg have to say about the eLicenser when the time comes.

If I were you I would highly recommend that you do not buy any ARM macs any time soon.  Look at it again in a few years.  Intel macs are going to keep working just fine for a few more years and for the next few years I would expect Intel to out perform ARM for audio applications in everywhere.  It will be quite a while before all the audio related software on your system is completely converted over to native ARM.  Be patient.  Wait.  I'm sure VSL will eventually get on the ARM bandwagon too because that will be the future for macs....but honestly, I think we are 5 years away from needing to worry about it.  Keep using Intel for now and don't worry.

If Logic and Final Cut had a few bugs ironed out, I'd buy an ARM Mac just for them, even with a performance hit. I have to use them both for non-musical stuff.

My current computer is fine for the foreseeable future for anything music related.

And then, there are those who were still using their nearly-obsolete Macs, waiting for a new generation of inexpensive minis to replace them… :(

Mi spiace Paolo... but "inexpensive" is a word excluded by the Apple dictionary, at least for all the new stuff...

temo ci vorrà un po'...

I'll correct myself, then: I was waiting for a powerful "around 2,000 euros" replacement Mac, ready to go. Like the current mini + third party memory, but with more steroids. And, possibly, not totally incompatible with most of the existing software…

Intel is overpricing it's CPU because it has the monopoly !

Looks this one :

Being Intel’s fastest 28-core CPU for multi-socket servers, the Xeon Platinum 8284 processor costs $15,460 (recommended customer price for 1k unit order, RCP), whereas the Xeon Platinum 8280 that runs at a 300 MHz lower frequency, costs $10,009 for 1ku.

How do you want to sell a Mac Pro at $ 5000  if it has 2 x Xeon 8284 processors at $ 30 020

Let's wait and see what is going to happened for Christmas !

Apple says they still have some Intel based macs in the pipeline which are yet to be released, Intel is not over yet.  Maybe you will be able to pick up one of the last ones of those, but personally I would wait 5 years to consider ARM macs for music production.  But we shall see what happens.
