Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a Mac Mini with a regular 1 gigabyte per second ethernet port. I was told by someone that I should have purchased one with the 10 gigabyte per second ethernet port if I was to be using Vienna Ensemble Pro 7. And that I'll run into issues.
Firstly, is this accurate?
Second, if so, I am a bit confused with what I'd need to do to make sure I am making use of the 10gbe without bottlenecks. Does this mean that:
a) I should purchase a thunderbolt 3 to 10gbe for my mac mini? Like this? https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07K7SMF89/
b) My PC that I plan on using also only has a 1 gigabyte per second ethernet port. Should I also be buying another adapter to get 10gbe for my PC? Like this? https://www.amazon.ca/10Gtek-X540-T2-Converged-Network-Adapter/dp/B06XH4HV96/
c) Since I have these two computers with 10gbe ports, won't I need to network them somehow? And to do that, I guess I'd be needing a 10gbe switch? Like this? https://www.amazon.ca/Ethernet-Unmanaged-2x10-Gig-Multi-Gig-Protection/dp/B076642YPN/
A little confused, and a tad wary about spending this money if I don't have to. But I am prepared to spend it if needed.
I am confused because I am totally new to VEP7 and have never used it before and don't know what to expect. My PC isn't finished yet, so I cannot test... I am still waiting on the processor. But in the meantime, I'd like to know if to solve the above issue should I purchase more stuff below to solve the three issues above?
My hope was to be making the PC I am building be the main muscle of my orchestrations and also run some virtual synths. I'd have Kontakt, East West, and some u-he stuff loaded on it. Tell me if I am wrong in thinking I would need 10gbe or if I am good with 1. I really dunno.
