  • Vienna Ensemble Pro 7

    Hi

I have just purchased Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 for use with in Cubase 9

At the moment I am finding it pretty much impenetrable!

Is there a proper manual available? The so called manual on the VSL website tell you plenty about what it can do but nothing about how to do it!

I've also tried to find tutorials on YouTube but can only find videos describing previous versions.

Also I was charged £24.00 GBP for a Vienna Key which I didn't need as I have a Steinberg licence key and I have registered my VSL purchases with my existing key.

I was not aware at the time of purchase that this was possible, in fact, the wording in several places on the website implies that VSL products will no work without the Vienna Key.

I'm not a very happy customer at present!

A PDF manual for each VSL item purchased should be included among the available files in your user Download page on the VSL website. At the top there are buttons to filter what you see. Make sure you select the manuals button or it won't show.

I can't remember exactly how it's presented, but when you purchase any VSL item, if you do not currently have a key registered with VSL you are presented with the need to purchase a key for your purchase to work. If you no key it will not work. The same is true with Steinberg.

Again if I recall correctly, you may have to delete the key from your cart if you already have a key that's only registered with Steinberg. VSL has no way of knowing you have a key, and they are only trying to help first-time customers. One thing I do remember is a number of years ago when making my first VSL purchase I had to figure all that out.

Re: tutorials, many VSL product pages have a selectable tab called "videos" that includes videos from past and present. Here is the one for VE Pro 7: Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 Videos . From my experience VSL videos are not really designed as effective tutorials. They move very quickly, short and to-the-point, without slowed-down demonstrations or repetitions for people who might need it.

Please can you arrange for me to return the unwanted Vienna Key for a refund.

    Many thanks

    Hi Ian,

I suggest to send this request via mail to support@vsl.co.at

Manuals are now located here: www.vsl.info

    Best, Ben

  • It's a good idea to have a spare key in case of malfunctions or accidental damage, loss, theft, etc. especially if your Steinberg key is getting old. So I would just keep it.

As for the tutorials, because people use vastly different setups and systems (OS, DAWs, Notation software, slave machines, etc.) it's just impractical to produce videos that cater to everybody's specific needs so they are more of a general guide than a step 1, step 2 workflow.  Also, the videos assume you have a certain knowledge base about the subject matter.

The software instructional videos I think are pretty good but you may have to watch them a few times to understand them.  The "Get you up and running" videos, on the other hand, weren't very useful for me either so I do understand your frustrations.

Be sure to ask questions here on the forum. Tell us what error messages are popping up, and post screen shots, with your system set up etc.

It was an undertaking, but now it is available online for everyone with full text search, compatibility with mobile devices, and it allows us to update and expand the manuals faster then before 😊
