  • CPU improvements of Master with 10 Gigabit Network

    Hello,

I use VEPro and Logic. On a recent project I had about 150 stereo returns coming back to logic at the same time (during a dense section of the mockup). This drove my CPU up quite a bit.

I’m running an 8 core 2013 Mac Pro and various custom audio PCs over a Gigabit network.

My question is, would upgrading to a 10 Gigabit network improve the CPU usage of my Mac Pro when over 150 stereo pairs are coming at it over the network, or is this purely a CPU bottleneck that could only be solved by reducing the number of returns or upgrading to a better CPU?

  • Hi,

Upgrading to higher bandwidth networking will rather increase CPU usage.

Consider creating submixes in VEP and returning these.

    Best, Ben

  • Even if using the same number of channels?  In other words, if the pipeline is faster, will it always use more CPU per channel returned, analogous to (though different from) using a higher sample rate?

  • Do you have two Ethernet port on your 8 core 2013 Mac Pro ?

Why not adding another one ?

This is a French store :

You should be able to find it in a store in your country
