    Hi guys,

Last week I wrote an arrangement for a original song from myself. It is a kind of lovesong in German. I decided to make a small arrangement with string quintet, piano and celesta. I chose for the strings the sordino this worked better for the accompaniment. Does anybody have some remarks? I did the hole mix with mir24 which was not so easy for me.

Here you find the link for the music:

  • I like this song. Reminds me of the songs of the 30's or even Kreisler. Very nice composition. The arrangement is a bit too reverberant for my taste. Did you also mix the vocals on MIR pro?

  • Thank you for listening. Yes I did the vocal also with MIR. Maybe the strings are to deep in the room? I used the Teldec wide room. I am more musical than technician and have not so much experience with the vocal mixing. My thought was to bring with the reverb the song more in the styl of the 50th.

  • I think the vocals are ok. I would suggest to change the main reverberation time. It is also a good possibility to experiment in the settings of each instrument channel.

  • Very enjoyable to listen to.

I would put the piano more into the background though and brighten up the vocals a bit.

    Stefan

  • I am still testing which reverberation is better. But thanks for your note. I will do a hole album in this style and feedback helps a lot.

  • Hi Stefan, I already switch from the Imperial to Synchron Pianos. But now I didn´t send the piano into the MIR room. Should I? Do you have any experience?

    Regards,

    Markus

  • Hi,

I find the piano perfectly ok. I never worked with the Imperial before, only with the Bösendörfer which perfectly suits my needs.

I generally shy away from the close mic plus the key noises enabled. I think this is might be a problem at the beginning of your song. I find the piano and the keynoises too prominent.

Otherwise everthing's just fine, I would just make the voice just more prominent. I find the lyrics hard to understand although I'm a native speaker.

Alas, I have to say that I'm not a very good sound engeneer, so my advice is solely on personaly taste.

    Best regards
    Stefan

  • Thank you for your very interesting notes. You are right, I am in the beginning not very happy with the piano, I will try it in your way. :-) There is still work to do, but I think its on a good way.

    Herzliche Grüße,

    Markus
