  • Vienna Ensemble Pro 7. multi-computer

When using a slave computer,  can I put some 3rd party plugins like EQ  and compression  loaded into the slave computer but not loaded into the master computer.   So will the automation set up in my DAW on the master computer (Digital Performer) work on the plugins which are on the slave computer?

    Thank you.

    Hi Terry,

I'm afraid I don't get the question. Could you please explain again?

You can of course always check with a free key-less demo license for VE Pro 7 (only restriction: no saving / loading).

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

It's probably such a basic question that you missed it.  I am brand new to this idea - but I like it.

You know how the multi computer setup lets you hook a slave computer to the server computer....

Tell me if I have this correct please:

Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 will be installed on the master/server computer.  Then data can be sent via internet to a second slave computer.  Let's say I have a very special EQ plugin.   I can install that on my second computer.  I can adjust the controls with the keyboard and mouse which are connected to the slave computer.   I then route the output of the plugin back to my DAW's mixer over the internet.  I don't have to  install the plugin in the master/server computer.

Now my DAW (Digital Performer) is only installed in the master/server computer.    That is where you can automate controls of the plugin.  (For instance,  near the end of the song I want to boost the treble higher on the special EQ plugin).   I would write the automation in my DAW (DP)  and it would control the EQ plugin on the other computer.

    What do you think, Paul?

    Cheers,

    Terry

PS: How do I go to the next line in this forum without skipping a space?  Like you did after Best, Paul.

    Hi Terry50,

    Thanks for the explanation!

You can do that with the Parameter Automation in VE Pro 7.

To avoid a space between lines, hold shift when you press <Return>.

  • Hi Paul
It says All parameters in Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 and its hosted plug-ins are automatable from the master host.
The host would be VEP 7..   correct?
Is VP7 able to do all of the parameters that the DAW can do?
    Thank you,
    Terry

  • Hi Terry,

The master host is your sequencer.

"Is VP7 able to do all of the parameters that the DAW can do?"

=> Not sure what that means, but you can automate all automatable parameters of the plug-ins you are hosting in VE Pro FROM your sequencer.

  • Hi Paul,

If I have Kontakt instruments loaded on a slave computer,
and I have Fab-Filter EQ plugin loaded into the slave computer,
can the slave computer's CPU change the EQ of the music before it is sent to the server computer.

Here is another way to ask the same question:
The midi is recorded in my DAW.  VEP 7  is sent the data using the daw's instrument tracks.  (the VEP 7 is installed in the server computer).   VEP 7 sends the data to the slave computer.  The slave computer has VEP installed.
Question #1) Will the VEP on the slave computer automatically have the tracks set up from the server's VEP ?
Question  #2)  Do I load the 3rd party EQ
into - the slave's VEP, or
                          into the server's VEP  or
in the DAW which is on the server computer ?
Question  #3)   I would like to run the plugins (EQ, delay, etc)  on the slave computer.  Can I only load the delay
into the slave computer;  or do I have to also load it into the server computer's daw?
Question  #4)    I have Apple's AU plugins in my daw (Digital Performer) which I like.  How can I use these in my                            s                      slave computer? They are already loaded into my DAW.
Question  #5)  With the 3rd party EQ installed into the slave computer,  (but not the server's computer),  can I    a.                     automate the EQ from my DAW in the server's computer ?

    Hi Terry,

I'm sure this will clear up as soon as you actually try the software (there is a key-less demo available on the product page).

A1: No, you'll have to create tracks in VE Pro and connect them to the corresponding track in your DAW.

A2: There is no DAW running on the networked computer(s), only the VE Pro Server(s). You always load plug-ins into the VE Pro Server on the machine you are connected to.

A3: You always load plug-in on the computer where you process your signals.

A4: You need to install those plug-ins (and licenses) on your networked computer(s) as well to use them there.

    A5: Yes, with parameter automation

    Best,

    Paul
