I have been running some experiments relating to latency and delay compensation on my rig. Specifically between PT and Vienna Ensemble Pro. I keep coming to the conclusion that when I go to print audio to tracks, something is awry. Maybe I have failed to understand something, or there is a bug somewhere.
Here is a detailed explanation....
I have a test session running at buffer 1024. The VEP instances are set to two "2 buffers", and show 2048 samples delay as expected, both in their VEP plugin windows and in the ADC fields at the bottom of the channel strips.
I have printed the MPC click from the click plugin to an audio track.
I can see that the click is aligned with the grid perfectly, and when I play them both back with phase reversed on one, they null each other out, so far so good.
I have created a Kontakt instance on the Vienna Machines, with this same click loaded in as a sample.FYI I have MIDI Track Offsets in the view menu set to zero for all tracks and the global setting on the top.
I run the test. Again, the clicks coming from the Vienna machines null out the printed click on the main machine. I am monitoring the audio returns from Vienna machines through audio tracks. On these tracks I have switched Auto Low Latency off, so they are showing blue. When I arm the tracks and go into record, they continue to be in perfect sync.
However.... after the resulting audio is written 'early'. I can see it is early both on the grid and on playback (after having taken the tracks out record enable and input). It seems to consistently write the audio 2048 samples ahead. When I manually nudge the audio back 2048, all is well!
This test is quite typical of how I would work, I would run samples live from VEP, then expect to print to audio tracks in PT, whilst maintaining the timing.
Does anyone have any thoughts?
