    Hi,

    I recently set up my electric piano with the Vienna instruments/ensemble player.

    I want to figure out how to assign two patches to a violin (detache and sustain), so that when I am recording shorter note values the detache is activated, then when the violin part has longer notes, the sustain patch is activated.

    When I used vsl as a stand-alone software with finale notation software, the patches were automatically assigned as the music was playing, but now I'd like to record a symphony by playing my electric piano.

    I am using a Yamaha P-35, focusrite 4i4 interface, and Cakewalk by bandlab.

    Please let me know how to accomplish this

    The only way to have two patches loaded is via the Slot Crossfade function (Advanced mode). There you bring in the secondary patch with a continuous controller, which defaults to CC 20.

     

    You may wish to switch from one cell to the next or one dimension to the next using a CC, a key, speed, velocity or via a sequence map in that but there is no control via note duration I can see, so you'd set another condition to change it. EG: set the switch to velocity but use Velocity XFade for the subsequent dynamics.

    I'm not sure what you mean...

    To be concise, I want the detache for my short notes and sustain for my longer notes

    The sustain patch does not sound good for short notes, and detache patch simply does not work for half notes

    Could you explain what you mean by assigning CC 20 to a patch?

    I already noticed that if I click a patch, a certain note on the electric or virtual piano is highlighted, but what does that have to do with CC commands?

    Maybe a starting point, is that you could tell me in a simple way exactly what a MIDI CC is...I already experimented with assigning different CC's in the basic view, but its unclear what it actually did in practical terms

    Hi,

    This should be fairly simple and is explained in the Vienna Instruments Tutorials.

    Basically, you create 2 cells and then you decide how you want to switch between them.
