  • Deacent computer networked with VEP 7 sounds cracking ?

     Hi

I recently purchased update to VEP 7 and after instaled on both Mac pro 5.1 computers there is no

chace to play more than 20 voices when sound become crackled !

Looked at CPU load in VEP 7 nothing above 50% on netvorked server.

With VEP 7 localy on my Main computer everything is ok like in VEP 6 pass years....

I didnt change nothing on Ethernet cables or Swicher.

    Mac pro 5.1 12 core 3.33ghz with OS X 10.14.6 48gb of RAM VEP 7 latest update.

    Any suggestions?

  • Hi,

Maybe a stupid question,  but could it be that you are streaming over WIFI?

    No my WiFI is off

Is Ethernet 100MBs enough for VEP 7 or myst be 1000MBs ?

  • Hi Paul

Is there a setup tutorial for networked Mac OS X computers with Vienna Ensemble pro 7 ?

Some pictures like this ? What to select in this setup?

Or how many continious voices can single ethernet cable pass trough Gigabit / 1000 Conection ?

  • Hi kokoa

Most likely the buffer size in your daw needs to be increased or you need to up the buffer count in the plugin instance. This can be found in the upper-right corner of the plug-in instance in your DAW.

With the exception of some beastly dual cpu machines I've built for composers, I generally have to keep it at a minimum of 256 in my DAW and often 3 or 4 buffers depending on the instance and how instruments are set up inside.

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi

    Thanks for replay Grodhisatva

Maybe this is problem with 96 Khz project in Protools Daw ( My Audio buffer set to 512. for 96 Khz in Protools)

In Vienna Ensemble pro 7 AAX plugin set to 2 buffers ( if set to 4 buffers lattency is too big for playing)

Im curious How many voices can stream trough Gigabit Ethernet on 96 Khz ?

On how many simultaneous stereo audio streams from networked computer with VEP 7 ?

This is not un limitles of course ?

To be clear my networked comp is on 50% CPU  so what is limit when I hear clicks and pops in audio ?

My main DAW CPU is around 10% at this time .

    Hi,

    Here are some calculations:

One sample of audio is 4 bytes in size. So if the samplerate is 44100, for a single channel of audio, 44100*4 bytes is the size for one second of audio. 32 audio channels would thus mean 32*44100*4 = 5644800 bytes per second. So for 32 active audio outputs, VE Pro only needs up to 5-6 MB/s.

Network setup in the VE Pro 7 manual.

What happens if you switch to 44.1 or 48 kHz?

    Best,
    Paul
