  • Slave & Master iMac2020 + mid2011 iMac on different OS; switching master & slave relationships

I have two questions concerning master-slave relationship using VEP7 - I have late 2020iMac and mid 2011 iMac:

1)Is it possible to connect two mac machines w/different OS?

one OS will be at 10.13.6 (maxed out at High Sierra - it can go no further because mac doesn't support it anymore as its a mid 2011 iMac). The other computer will be on the latest Big Sur OS.

2)Is it possible to switch the master slave relationship while working? Is this simple to do?

In theory, I plan on having one computer in one part of my house and the other in my basement connected via 10 gigabit ethernet connection, this way I can create music upstairs or downstairs as I want to with whichever machine I am using to create the music as the master & the other as a slave.

Any ideas or thoughts welcome, thanks.

  • Welcome erickwalterbutler,

    1) Yes, you can use different OSs to connect VE Pro 7, it just needs to be macOS 10.10 or higher. Big Sur has not been thoroughly tested (with all possible components), but our software will work fine, as far as we can tell.

    2) Yes, that's possible, if you have 2 licenses and keys on both computers. Remember that you need to have the sample content and software installed on the respective computer.

    My advice: Keep it simple.

Also, the performance difference between your 2011 and 2020 iMac could make it harder to switch that easily.
