  • MIDI Files, Dorico & Special Editions

I ask for forgiveness in advance for creating a topic. I'm not sure if it's warranted but I cannot seem to find any information or guidance, just trial and error with much frustration.

    I am new to VSL!

I have some MIDI files of some compositions I wrote many years ago. I would like to import them into Dorico. I can and that is no problem. The default VST is HalionSonic and that is nice but I want to use my Special Editions.

I've taken a look at some YouTube videos and was able to use the Synchron Player on the score instead of Halion Sonic.

I need to figure out which staff corresponds to the MIDI channel and how to assign that channel to the specific instance of the Synchron Player  with that instrument loaded from SE Volume 1.

I also want to set multiple outputs so I can control the routing of the MIDI through Dorico to SE Volume 1.

Thanks for any help you may have.

    Welcome!

Everything you need to know about SYNCHRON-ized Special Editions and Dorico is available right here.

Which step / part does not work?

    Best,
    Paul

  • Paul,

Thank you for your prompt response!

I've seen the videos and the templates.

    1. What I'm looking for, I think is rather simple. How do I assign a stave(s) imported from a midi file to a particular midi channel for Synchron Player or any other VST.

    2. The templates are very nice and I have no idea if it's possible to use them for a different score. If possible I'd like to know how.

The answer to number 1. is critical.

    Thanks,

    Ron

  • Hello Ron!

Please note that Synchron Player is not multitimbral. This means that it cannot play different instruments on differnt channels. So please add a Synchron Player for every instrument that you have in your score to your project. The players can then be assigned in Dorico in the left column of the Play page.

For Dorico projects you can simply apply our Playback Templates. That's the easiest way to set up our instruments for Dorico. How to do that is explained at the link that Paul has provided.

This may not work for imported MIDI files though. I don't know how many instruments of an imported MIDI file Dorico can recognize.

    Best regards,
    Andi

That put me on the right track (pun intended).
