  • Disable key switch, use all keyboard key range

    Dear Vienna,

I would like to use all my keyboard (no keyswitch, start from the first keyboard key).
    - How do I disable the keyswitch (so I only use the GUI to change the instrument settings, not the keyboard)?
    - How do I change the key map to use all my keyboard?

    Thanks,
    -Christophe

    Hi Christophe,

    1) See: https://www.vsl.info/manuals/synchron-player/dimension-tree-view#dimensions

    2) You can extend the playing range of an instrument up and down up tto an octave. You can also transpose the instruments
    - Extend playing range: No 17 on screenshot: https://www.vsl.info/manuals/synchron-player/gui-overview#range-display
    -
    Transpose: https://www.vsl.info/manuals/synchron-player/edit-tab

  • Many thanks for the answer!
Actually, I was thinking of the Vienna Ensemble software. Any features to address these issues in Vienna Ensemble?

  • Hello Christophe,

I'm not sure I understand the "issues". Keyswitches are one way to switch between articulations, but you can always use different controllers, if you like.

Which sequencer are you working with? Maybe Expression Maps or similar "helpers" will be a good option for you?

  • Hello,

My question was: in Vienna Ensemble 6.0, is it possible to disable the key switch so I can use all the keys to play (see picture attached). With the current setting, there is 1 octave 1/4 not used, that I would like to use only to play.

    Kind regards,
    -Christophe

  • Hi Christophe.

You can set each matrix controller to "None".
Turning off "Keyswitch" as a method to walk trough cells will free space on your keyboard.
And then there are range and transpose functions to take advantage of keyboard extension.

Just to be exact, we are talking about Vienna Instruments (Pro), not Ensemble.

  • Hello Christophe,

I'd also like to add that keyswitches always overrule samples in Vienna Instruments, so you will not hear any sound on a note that has a key-switch.

Some people are simply using a second small keyboard (1 or 2 octaves) for keyswitches that are set outside the playing range (below or higher than your keyboard range).
