  • [SOLVED] Halion as multitimbral source in VEP using Cubase?

Any suggestions on how to set up Halion as a single source multitimbral instrument in an instance of VEP while using Cubase 10?

    Possible?

  • Alright, I figured this out at long last! (..a little different from Kontakt)

I setup VEP as a 'Rack' instance, turned on some Audio Out channels in that instance that will come back to Cubase, and then loaded in the instruments in their Halion slots.

I had to adjust to the fact that if I want different Audio Out tracks from VEP/Halion coming back into Cubase, that I always have to adjust the MIDI track numbering going from Cubase into the VEP/Halion instance track slots so that they match the actual Audio Out track routing from VEP going back into Cubase.

Care must be taken in getting all the Halion MIDI settings just right and setting the Audio Outs to match.

    ie:

-Cubase Midi Channel 2 becomes Midi Channel 3 going into VEP in order to trigger Halion Midi Instrument 2, if that instrument is returing to Cubase on VEP Audio Output 3/4

    - Cubase Midi Channel 3 becomes Midi Channel 5 in VEP in order to trigger Halion Midi Instrument 3, if that instrument is returning to Cubase using VEP Audio Output 5/6

    etc.

No, sorry to inform you, but this is not fact. This is not how things work. The MIDI track numbering has no correlation with the audio output configuration at all, in anything. The correspondence of assignments from a MIDI track to VEP as rack instrument in Cubase is simply 1:1. I have no idea where that construction comes from but something is confused.

Here [below/next post], depicted is MIDI Port 1, Channel 1 in Cubase 11 Inspector going to HALion in VEP7, with its instrument channel in VEP set to Out3-4 while its master out has a reverb sent to, Out1-2, audio signal shown in both applications. All correspondence is a simple match. Make sure HALion's MIDI in the VEP instrument channel matches what Cubase has, also attend to eg., "Port 1", as depicted below in the Inspector '01ViennaEnsembleProMIDIIn1' above the Channel connection

It's not different than any multitimbral instrument unless something is wrong, like corrupt preferences somewhere.
I hate to have to tell you since you appear to have something functioning where you didn't before, but your assertion from that is not a description of how it actually works, so be advised going forward.
