  • VEP on Mac can't validate 2 plugins

On my Mac (Catalina), VEP seems to scan my plugins more frequently these days. Two plugins fail: PLAY sample player VST (not just VST 3) and Best Service. The latter happened for the first time today. Any help with the frequency of scans or the plugin compatibility is appreciated.

  • I've had a couple of odd ones myself. Guitar Rig 6 wouldn't. Then it would, but I had un- & re-installed VEP before it would. I'm not sure without reading the properties lists which preferences to remove in order to force a rebuild for this bit.

  • This problem is ongoing. East West answered my questions about the PLAY sample player and sent me a link to download a fresh copy. No change. VEP will not validate the VST version. Also applies to the Best Service plugin.

Further, I'd love to know why VEP is scanning my plugins so often. It happens nearly every day now. That is new behaviour. I can't find anything in the preferences pane that would affect this.

  • Hi Paul,

A complete rescan should only happen if the cache folder has been deleted (perhaps a 3rd party uitility clearing system caches?) or if a manual rescan is triggered from preferences.

The plugin cache folder for VEP7 is:
    /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Caches/VSL/Vienna Ensemble Pro/cache

As you can imagine, we are sticking to every dot of the VST / AU plug-in guidelines, and hundreds of plug-ins work just fine with VE Pro.

Any exceptions: We're happy to help and audio developers to improve compatibility, with demo / NFR licenses.

    Best,
    Paul

  • FTR, Cubase Pro 11 struggles to recognize both Guitar Rig 6 and 5 (it takes a long time) as well (slow in the beginning in VE Pro as well, not quite as bad), that is after a 'trash Cubase preferences and rebuild' maneuver.
I would recommend being careful w. deleting caches or preferences, in favor of knowing what's in them.
