  • Dorico percussion maps: problem with suspended cymbal cresc.

    Hi Andi!

could it be, that only the "cresc. 1s" Playing technique works with the suspended cymbal? If i use "cresc 2s" or "cresc 4s", there is only a short stroke on the C, no sustained note or cresc.
I looked in the definitions of the percussion maps, it seems all ok. Tried with both, "35 Synchron Percussion -> 07 Synchron Cymbal" and "31 Percussion -> 21 Cymbals and gongs", but with both the same. I have no idea, why "cresc 1s" works and the other two not.

    Can you have a look?

    Thanks

  • Hello frave!

I was able to reproduce the problem. It will be fixed with the next update. Sorry for the inconvinience that this may have caused.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hello Andreas,

sorry to revive this old thread, but i run into this problem again. I found out, that only the first used playback technic in Dorico gets used for the entire piece. If i choose "cresc 1s" for the very first cymbal stroke, i have to use this one for the rest of the piece. When i try to use on another note "cresc 2s", i get only a single stroke. Do i something wrong or are my Percussion maps not up to date?

    Thanks

    frave

  • Hello frave!

I can't reproduce the behaviour that you have described. Changing between different crescendo lengths works fine here. Two possible reasons for your problem come to my mind.
    - Could it be that you have a different instrument than "Suspended Cymbal" in your score?
    - Maybe you have other techniques on this staff as well that get in the way with the crescendo command. I would try to put an "ord." technique command before crescendo.

    Best regards,
    Andi

    Hi andy,
i use the 07 Synchron Cymbal which gets loaded automatically from the Playback Template (VSL SYzd SE Vol 1-4 PLUS).
I tried a fresh score and added some notes but no luck. I confirm that only if i add an "ord" technique after the first stroke i can use another length.

I attached a dorico file. if i remove the ord. technique in the middle, i get two 1sec crescs. and at the third a single stroke.
if i leave the ord., i get a 1sec cresc, then a single stroke, then a 2sec cresc.

    Thanks

  • Hello frave!

The instrument you have in your score is correct. I can reproduce your problem with your project, but cannot reproduce it when I start a new project here. This points to old settings that you have in your project. Please proceed as follows:
    - Close Dorico.
    - Download and run the latest VSL for Dorico Installer with Vienna Assistant.
    - Start a new project with a Suspended Cymbal.

Now the cresc. commands should last for one note only.
I'm not sure if you can update the playing technique for your old project. You might have to live with the "ord." command in this project.

    Best,
    Andi

  • Hi andi!

confirm that it worked with a new project from scratch! No problem to start over with a new one, just happy that it works now.
    Thanks a lot!
