  • SYNCHRON-Newbie - very basic question!

    Hello!

I'm a VSL User since VSL Cube came up around 20 years ago and I've been using the VSL special Edition and the apassionata strings for many years now as a Vienna instrument.

Now there is the synchron-player and all the synchronized libraries and I'm thinking about purchasing Synchron Strings Pro, also the synchronized Appassionata could be a great thing for me, but I would like to know more about the general approach why there suddenly is such thing as a second plugin technology.

Is the Synchron Player the new technology to replace the Vienna instrument plugin one day or are they meant to co-exist and each of them has its pro and con's - just two different ways of working?

I tried Smart Orchestra already about 1 year ago and for me it seemed to be a nice thing to quickly create an orchestral sound for sketching and things like that. I was searching in the forum but didn't find an answer to this very basic thoughts - thank you!

    Hi superflo,

The Synchron Player was introduced 4 years ago, with fresh face and the possibility to host multi-microphone libraries like Synchron Strings Pro. We have since then added many additional features like real-time time-stretching and also implemented essential features you know from Vienna Instruments / Pro (like Humanize).

The tree structure in the dimension tree offers new options and is also easier to navigate, as the descriptions of the cells are very clear. You can look at it as a 3D Matrix.

Our SYNCHRON-ized products contain the samples of the original VI Collections, perfectly positioned and balanced in the Synchron Stage Vienna - ready to go.

I'd say: Check out the available demo licenses, which are always listed below this video and see how you like it.

    Best,
    Paul

  • Ok I see, thanks!

But is it like that: The VI is the real pro thing and the synchron is the easier version? Or is it just a different approach, but in the end of the line, both deliver the same results, but synchron offers more mic positions (which indeed is great!) ? Will there be both technologies in the future?

I'm just careful because the decision to change the whole workflow (Articulation switching and using of different controllers and things like that) is a tough one!

  • Hi superflo,

Both players are professional players, and each have a few features that the other one does not have.

Main differences in features that are only contained on one platform (off the top of my head):

    • VI Pro has Auto Divisi and MIRx compatibility.
    • Synchron Player offers Real-Time Time Stretching, a 3D Matrix, a multi-channel mixer and built-in FX plug-ins. Extras like compatibility with Presonus' new Sound Variation features or NKS compatibility for quite some Synchron products comes extra.

We will be supporting both technologies in the predictable future. Development focus will be on the Synchron Player.

Some of our long-time users have become very accustomed to the VI/Pro Player and prefer to stick to their "classic" workflow. For new users, I'd personally always suggest to go with the Synchron Player.

    Best,
    Paul

    superflo,

As one who owns both products, Paul's words I quote here are worth noticing. The VI player is outstanding, but for me the inability of the matrices to display more than a few letters as a description of a cell's contents present a real difficulty. Synchron provides more length for each description, enough to adequately distinguish it's unique content without cryptic or inadequate shorthand codes.

Just thought I'd chime in. Hope you are happy with your choices.
