  • VE Pro quits/crashes on Windows 10

I’m using VE Pro on macOS and also since some time on Windows 10. It’s been working fine, but recently the VE Pro Server 64-bit crashes on Windows.

I can open VEP, but when I’m trying to add an Instance or open a Server Project the application just quits.

Using the latest versions of VEP (7.0.1056), VIP, SY Player and SY Pianos. Windows 10 Pro, OS Build 19042.

I’m a long-time Mac use and a Windows newbie, so I’d be thankful for suggestions for troubleshooting on Windows.

    Thanks in advance, Håkan Glänte

  • Hello, Hakan,

I'll reply to your email in a moment. In situations like this, it's always best to

    1) Check if all your VSL software AND 3rd party Plugins are up to date.

    2) Send us the crash report via email at support@vsl.co.at

    https://www.vsl.info/en/tutorials/faqs/technical#log-report

    Thank you!

    Best regards,
    Andreas

  • Short update, if somebody else have the same issue:

Uninstalling MIR Pro solves this. (There’s no crash reports generated.)

Anybody else has problems with MIR Pro on Windows 10?

  • Hi Håkan,

This sounds like something I've already seen. In most cases this is caused by:

    a) Connecting to the VEP machine via Microsoft's RDP. Using an alternative remote desktop solution will solve the crashes in this case.
    b) Old graphics card drivers. Update the drivers...
    c) Graphics card is too old and the drivers do not provide the required functionalities for MIR to work. In this case a cheap alternative card might help (or if you currently use an old additional GPU and your CPU has an integrated graphics chip, try using it instead).

  • Thanks Ben,

    I don’t use RDP. My PC is connected to a BenQ PD3200Q monitor with a built-in KVM-switch.
The motherboard is a Gigabyte Z490 VISION D with integrated Intel HD Graphics.
The computer is quite new, built in October 2020, but even so, maybe the graphics driver needs to be updated.
How do I check the current version?

  • Hi!

Intel integrated GPU updates are handled by Windows Updates.
Make sure to have all Windows updates installed.

If this is a new system it might be worth checking if you are using the latest BIOS update.
If you don't know how to check this / update the BIOS, please consult a professional, as this might brick your board if not done correctly.

If all these things are up-to-date and you still experience troubles, please post you exact hardware configuration.

    Best, Ben
