Dear VSL-Crew,

i am sitting on a huge Atmos project - mostly powered by MIR Pro -  and a question crossed my mind: How is MIR 3D going? Is there any news at all? Just a bit curious, because it'll be exactly what i need for my next projects (i hope its basically MIR on steroids, haha)

Greets,

Joey

Hi Joey,

it's really good to see the growing interest in MIR's development, although there hasn't even been an official announcement. :-) Thank you very much!

MIR 3D is already "a thing", and as a matter of fact we just had another virtual developer meeting on Skype today. As you put it so nicely, it's indeed basically "MIR on steroids" - meaning that the underlying concept hasn't changed, but most (if not all) of the engine, the GUI, the preset management, even the RoomPacks have either been completely overhauled or even redesigned from scratch. Things are looking good already, but there are still some hurdles here and there which are more difficult to overcome than we thought.

... all I can do for now is ask for a little more patience, please ... 8-)

Thanks!

I have complete confidence that Mir3D is going to be awesome, please take all the time you need to make it so!  I already bought vouchers just for this!  ;-)

If one were to purchase MIR Pro or 24 now, would there be some kind of considerate upgrade path for when Mir3D is eventually released? Whilst I don't need the "3D" features, I would love an updated UI. Mir is very pixelated and clunky looking on my iMac. I'm sure there will be other improvements too. So would there be some kind of extremely discounted upgrade price?    :)

:-D ... while I wouldn't expect "extremely discounted prices", I'm sure that VSL's marketing will come up with some nice ideas regarding upgrades and introduction specials.

It goes without saying that MIR 3D will be first and foremost about sonic improvements and new possibilities. But the "3" in MIR 3D not only marks a departure into the third dimension, it also stands for the fact it will be the 3rd generation MIR engine in general. Of course, this concerns long-awaited areas such as the GUI resolution, but also the so important handling of presets and templates. I think you will like it .... :-)

Now all you need is to replace the Room Tone with sounds of the audience coughing at the worst possible moment in the music and we'll have ultimate realism.

This would be the easiest library to record.  Just hire 300 people and tell them not to make any noise whatsoever for 2 hours.

And I will bring this one to the session!

Woahh, cool!

But from Graphic Card side 2-4 GB are still OK?

EDIT: BTW ... Not long ago I told you that MIR looks like a Software that "wants to be touched" ... :) ... Thats it!

It's going to be tight, but I don't have any final system specs ready yet.

This is very interesting to hear about MIR 3D - Mir is already one of the best things for mixing/reverb ever.

Absolutely gorgeous! Makes the already beautiful venues even more so.

I hope that there will be some more sophisticated wood and fabric textures for the seats. Haha, just joking. :D

Or to push it even further: I stumbled upon this video and love the 3D presentation of the instruments (without people). Would look very cool in MIR ...
