> "Safe" to use CC1 as Vel. XF in Synchron Strings Pro?
Forum Jump
Hi
I'm trying to integrate the use of the Synchron Strings Pro and Synchron Strings Elite a little bit, and just want to hear if any of you have ran into problems trying to change the CC used for Vel. XF on the Pro to CC1?

Hi Stig,
CC1 is already assigned to Vel XF by default in both Synchron Strings Pro and Synchron Elite Strings (apart from the "Velocity" preset in Synchron Elite Strings).... Hm, I'm confused.

Aside from the specific confusion, it isn't going to matter what number CC you set for a control. Originally CC was hardwired into synths, at the outset of the MIDI original protocol but in software this is true rather more rarely. All CCs are just CCs, continuous control. There are things which seem hard-wired as switches or toggles, like CC64 but that would be a DAW's handling or like that (Cubase used to force it in its piano roll display to reveal as on/off, now it does not).

Ah okay!
I thought it was the default patches I had loaded!
You are right of course!

Hi
Yes I know that CC's are just CC's.
The problem is that I have, for a long time, used CC2 as VelXF and in the Synchron Strings FX this is the case, as the CC1 is used as an articulation switch.
So my asking was specific about any conflicts in the Synchron Strings Pro that could be the result if I would use CC1.
It's really easy to edit the Synchron Strings FX to do what I want.

In VI Pro I tended to save CC1 for a vertical dimension change, no reason other than it was that as default. So I didn't bother with it. At some point in Synchron development, they conformed to what most libraries do, CC1 for layers xfade. So I like mod wheel sometimes for the crossfade of slots in Synchron, sometimes for 'vel xf'.
I go to an established instance to copy the controller page and paste to a new instance, it's not quite one size fits all here.

All my presets use CC for dynamic control. It is not just that all the other libraries use it, but also because the big modulation wheel is the longest-run and most accurate controller I have.
No problem if I want to use my TEControl breath controller(s), because they can also transmit CC1.
