  • Anyone able to help with Smart Orchestra?

I bought VSL Smart Orchestra in December 2019. I was unable to use it so far because all kind of problems. This is my last try before discarding this thing. From the very beginning I had problems with noise. I tried to solve it by myself, then I wrote to customer support. They wrote me back a couple of times, nothing was solved, and I never heard back from them again. Somehow the noise disappeared at a point in time (don’t ask me why…). But when I’m trying to use the program as standalone, the noise is replaced by a long delay in between hitting a key and hearing the sound. It’s (only) about two seconds. Last November I replaced the computer with a new one:  Intel Core i9-10850K 3.6 GHz 20MB Cache 10-Core LGA1200 Processor, G. SKILL Ripjaws V Series 64 GB, (2) SAMSUNG V-NAND SSD 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 1TB (plus a few other drives), etc. My audio interface is a RME Fireface UFX always with the last RME driver and firmware installed. The MIDI interface is MOTU expressXT also with the last driver installed. The keyboard is a Kurzweil K2600X. I have also a Rupert Neve Design 5060 Mixer in my setup. The DAW I use is Cubase Pro 11. Except for VSL Smart Orchestra and VSL Big Bang Orchestra, everything else works absolutely wonderfully. All my instruments I have as software (Halion, Omnisphere, Keyscape, Trilian, BFD3, Retrologue, Pianoteq, etc.) have absolutely no problems and sound great. All, except for VSL Smart Orchestra and VSL Big Bang Orchestra. Both sound pretty bad plus the latency I mentioned above. And at least for now, both are useless. Please, let me know if any of you can help. Thank you.

  • Dear Eugene,

I replied to your existing case with a detailed and long email for further troubleshooting - a bit more than a week ago. Unfortunately, you never followed up on that either. This was in email ticket #345088. If the problems persist, please be so kind as to reply to the existing case or open a new ticket with an email to support@vsl.co.at (+ mentioning the existing ticked number to pick up things from the most recent point).

    Best regards,
    Andreas Rautner

  • And as a quick follow-up: To me, it sounds like you are not using an ASIO driver but the Windows Audio or DirectSound version. I added a screenshot for you. If that does not solve the issue, please proceed via the existing support ticket.

    Best regards,
    Andreas Rautner

  • Dear Andreas,

I never received your email, but your second post, today, helped me solve the problem.

In Synchron Player: File>Preferences>Audio>ASIO: ASIO Fireface USB. But when I switched the tab to Audio Routing, for mysterious reasons, there were neither inputs nor outputs listed. Fortunately, Reset brought everything back. The huge delay disappeared, and the instrument is now clean and beautiful.

    Thank you very, very much!
