  • Tutorials on mixing an orchestra

    Hi,

One of my bookshelves is filled with manuals on mixing. I have a ton of them in digital form. And a lot of issues of Sound On Sound and Mix Magazine, with countless articles on mixing.

But, apart for the occasional article in the aforementioned magazines, most of the materials deal with mixing rock, or exclusively thunderous blockbuster orchestral music.

It would be great if VSL could create some tutorials on mixing a virtual orchestra, keeping in consideration the various styles (classical music mockups, hybrid film music, intimate film scores, chamber pieces...). We have all the tools, in particular after the release of VEPRO 7 with all its processors. We have sampled instruments sounding honest and natural. We only miss a guide to make them sound finished and produced.

    Hello Paolo
Because mixing audio samples to a whole orchestra is quite complex, VSL has spent a lot of money and developed MIR. Mixing now means pushing instruments onto the stage of your choice. Compared to other libraries, this has the advantage that there is no fixed space and position in the samples. You can also use them the way you want...

And yes, you are right, of course, that there are people who still want to do the mixing themselves. I would therefore like to draw your attention to my tutorial "MIXING AN ORCHESTRA" (played with samples). It really covers all conceivable topics in connection with mixing orchestras. Further: Should anyone have a wish for an extension, it will be fulfilled in a next update. The updates are always free...

    By the way:
There are a lot of other interesting free tutorials on my website. It is actually the collection of answers I have given over many years in various forums - mainly on the subject of "making music with samples from VSL". Certainly interesting. As an example, here is a video...
