  • Prepared Piano

    Hi,

I was wondering about the Prepard Piano.

Were the samples (Double Screws, Chain) recorded with the sustain pedal pressed?
It certainly sounds like the whole Piano is resonating when one key is pressed.
I try to mix the prepared piano with the Bösendörfer (using those keys that have not been prepared).

Maybe this question doesn't make much sense, it just occured to me while exploring the Library
and honestly I don't have much experience with prepared pianos.

    Best Regards
    Stefan

  • Hello Stefan, Thanks for asking! To be honest, I don't remember exactly how we've recorded each effect, since it's almost 14 years ago. But pressing the pedal would make sense to let the chain vibrate more effectively, for example. The screws spread the strings, so the dampers could be blocked, pressing the pedal could be a workaround too, maybe occasionally half pedaling has been applied, solutions like that... I hope that helps a bit! Best, Michael

  • Hi Michael,

    thanks for the quick reply.

I think the integration with the unprepared Bösendörfer schould work just fine, regardless of whether the pedals are activated or not (I think they are).

Great samples anyway! Especially the glissandi!

    Best regards
    Stefan

  • Oh yes, I remember the Glissandi very well! We've wasted dozens of erasers and the top of the resonance body of the Piano looked like the gravel zone of a race track ;-) Best, Michael

  • I'm sure that was a lot of fun!

I'm just beginning to study the prepared piano and it's posibilities.

Anyway you did great work on that instrument!
Maybe some time there will be more samples. :)

    Best regards
    Stefan
