  • Synchron Brass Surround Mic Setup

Need a little clarification on the use of the surround mics in the full setup. It appears that most of the "surround to Stereo Downmix" Presets for the Brass have the Main Surround Mics turned off and only use the High Stereo & High Surround Mics. Yet the Surround Presets have the Main Surround Mics turned on as well. The manual says the Surround Presets are only available in a surround setup, yet they seem to work just as well in a stereo setup. Yet in the Synchron Percussion libraries full editions, the Main Surround Mics are on for both the Downmix Presets as well as the Surround presets.
Obviously, the Room-Mix mics don't use any of these since they are already "pre-mixed". So what is actually the intended use of the different Surround mics & High mics in relation to the other Room mics?

  • Hi,

The Surround  Presets are designed for surround setups, as the microphones were panned differently, to make use of the surround effect.

The Room-Mix contains a mix of all available microphones, als the surround mics.

For your stereo mix, you can simply look at those mics as additional room-mics that will give you even more depth in your mixes. This will be even more obvious if you change the runtime of those mics that are further away.
