  • Drive/storage optimization for Full Piano library

    Hello,

I'm interested in a full piano library for live performance, though won't need every microphone sample. The PC has a 256GB pcie/nvme and 500GB sata 6 drives with 20mb RAM. The complete library will only fit on the larger drive, but the mix of samples I'm interested in will fit on the smaller, faster drive if I could separate them. So, I have a few questions:

    1) How much performance/load time difference would there be between a SATA 6 and PCI/E (nvme) drive connection, using 3-4 microphone sample sets?

    2) Assuming it's worth configuring to load from nvme, is it possible to either:

         a) load the Piano Player and only the microphones I'm interested in on the smaller drive, or

         b) setup the files in such a way that the initial 'dump' at startup is from the NVME, but sample streaming comes from the sata drive?

My computer audio experience is quite limited, so if you have other ideas or suggestions, please let me know.

    Thank you!

  • Now that I have access to some software, I believe I was able to answer my own question. For anyone else that might come across this with the same question, the download manager allows you to select which parts of the library you wish to download, and also where you'd like to save them. So it seems like it should be easy to select just the options you want (mic positions in my case) and make them fit.
