    Hi,

    I would like to copy some Mix Presets between different presets. What the right way to do it?

    More in detail: after I created my own custom presets for, say, SYzd Dimension Strings, VSL released the '99 MIR Unprocessed' mix preset. I would like to add it to my custom presets, and maybe also replace the other existing mix presets with the new ones, in case they have been updated.

    If I save the '99 MIR Unprocessed' mix preset as a new custom mix preset, and then save it to disk, can I load this one into all of the Dimension Strings presets? Or, should I save a '99 MIR Unprocessed' mix preset for the Violins 1, one for the Viola, one for the Cello, and so on?

    Also, may I reuse this '99 MIR Unprocessed' mix preset for the SYzd Woodwinds, or are they totally different settings? Contrary to the other mixer presets, it has a name that is not unique to a particular preset (like '02a 2nd Violins Classic'). May I copy it anywhere else?

    Is there a way to simply copy and paste the mix preset files in the Finder?

    What I think to have understood is that the '99 MIR Unprocessed' mix preset can be copied anywhere, because it is just deactivating everything and putting all the faders flat.

    As for the other mix presets, I see they are strictly linked to a preset, and they are even contained in the preset. The user Mixer Presets folder on the drive seems to be more meant for exchange of exported mix presets.

    I believe that is correct, the mixer presets are built into the overall preset of the instrument.  I can't remember now if those are visible in the JSON if you were to try to use the text edit method, but I think not.

    I don't think its true that the one MIR preset is universal.  Different presets use different numbers of mixer channels, etc...so likely was created for each instrument preset to suit it.

    I think you are right. Despite the name, even this 'reset' mix presets seems to be tailored for a single preset.

    Good question, Paolo. The manual doesn't quite take us, explicity, as far as how to load factory or user MixPresets into 'alien' families of Presets. But it is possible - with no need for diving into Sublime and getting busy with PITA clerical editing.

    A method I've previously used for loading my own or a factory MixPreset into a Preset of an 'alien family' - though not exactly slick - goes something like this:-

    1.   While any Preset is loaded, hop over to the main MixerPreset browser and load a MixPreset that you intend to use in some other Preset family in which this MixPreset is not listed - i.e. is 'alien'.

    2.   In the Mix tab, open the "Preset:" popup menu above the Reverb strip at the far right of the tab, and in that menu select "Save settings to disk". In the window that opens, name it and save it.

    3.   Load a Preset from another 'family'. Go to the same popup menu as in 2 and select "Load settings from disk." Select and load your saved MixPreset from the window that opens.

    4.   When you've loaded one of your previously saved MixPresets in this way into an 'alien family' Preset, you won't see its name anywhere; you just have to remember that you have an 'alien' MixPreset loaded.

    5.   Depending on how 'alien' your saved MixPreset is to the Preset instrument of your choosing, you may find that your MixPreset changes the mixer configuration to something inappropriate for the loaded instrument Preset (e.g. your saved factory MixPreset from SyDimStrings can load 8 mixer channels for a Clarinet, lol.) Nevertheless, from what I've tried thus far, whatever happens in this cross-matching - no matter how seemingly chimerical - turns out to be logical and correct where it really counts. (Nicely done, VSL!)

    6.   In the right-hand Reverb strip, using the button marked with a floppy disk icon ("add current mixer settings as preset") will show your saved preset mirrored in the Presets browser only for the 'home' case; it's not listed in alien family Preset lists.

    I'll leave you to explore the almost endless possible what-ifs. 

    (Currently I don't use any particular MixPresets in my template. I have every Synchron Player's Convo and Algo verbs switched off and all instruments centred, because I do all my spatialisation outside the Synchron Players. Same goes for all my Kontakts, other sample players and synths).

    It looks similar to my method. Only, I prefer to save a new, 'dummy' mix preset in the target preset before loading the saved one, to be sure I will not overwrite anything. I will then load the saved settings from disk into the new, 'dummy' mix preset.

    It wouldn't be bad if copying mix presets was as easy as copying patches (right-click the original mix preset to copy, right click at the target to paste).

    This is an area I'd love to see an update to VePro for this.  When I load pretty much all my VIPro instruments into VePro, they automatically disable reverb and with MIRX mode on, it automatically positions the instrument on the stage and applies the appropriate character preset...all from the MIRX presets that Dietz did.   Awesome.

    But Synchron isn't quite so smooth when trying to use synchronized instruments with VePro, I have to manually go find the corresponding channel preset in Mir, MIRX mode then positions it, fine...but in addition to having to manually load the preset, I have to manually go switch the mixer preset to the MIR preset and I have to generally go change CC7 fader to some fixed value I am using for everything, let's say 110, and let MIRPRO handle the natural volume instead.  Would be nice if VePro could recognize when I'm loading synchronized instrument presets with MIRPro active and go do all that stuff automatically like it does for VI instruments.

    But in the meantime, I feel your pain Paolo at having to go back and manually change all your presets, and I can't think of a good automatic solution other then maybe some kind of helper Keyboard Maestro macros?
