  • Missing articulations from SYzd Chamber Strings

    Hi,

While trying to see if I could remove some VI libraries from the SSD, being really short in space, I was comparing the articulations between VI and SYzd.

I already knew of the many missing ones from Appassionata Strings, as well as @Paul's response that we shouldn't expect them to be reintegrated anytime soon.

But now I could also see that SYzd Chamber Strings are missing all the harmonics, among some other things (the unique baroque trills!). I wonder if these will be reintegrated, or I should not expect it (…anytime soon…).

  • Having to decide what to move away from the SSD drives, if having to re-edit older pieces is not an issue: I guess Dimension Brass and Dimension Sthings are two libraries that have not lost anything when going from VI to SYzd.

    Do I remember correctly?

    Paolo

  • Me again!

I guess it is not possible to run Dimension Strings from a mechanical HD.

On the contrary, Dimension Brass shouldn't be a problem, being less instruments, and usually acting as individual parts.

So, maybe the Brass can be a good candidate to run from the HD, when I have to access them from older pieces.

Paolo I am in the same situation now as I am thinking about getting the Synchron Strings bundle, which needs a LOT of ssd space.

Can you please elaborate specifically on which articulations are missing from Synchronized Appasionata?  I basically have a lot of synchronized stuff also and will probably remove some VI stuff from my SSD to make room, probably both dimension products, woodwinds, for a start.  Not sure about solo, chamber and appasionata, now that you mention those have some missing articulations, maybe not.  I've seen various comments along these lines over time, but it would be good if we had a consolidated list of what is missing from Synchronized conversions from VI.

Missing from the Vi version are slurred and sul G legato, progressive vibrato, recorded crescendo and diminuendo, recorded repetitions, clusters, runs, random pizzicato. I don't know, at the moment, if harsh articulations are embedded in other ones. Imprecise tuning can be simulated with Humanize.

More, there are non vibrato and soft articulations, and a full set of second violins, that are really really useful.

Solo Strings seem to have gone through synchronization without losing any articulation (and there are some new).

In the end, I removed some other libraries that I either don't use, or can run well from a mechanical drive. Too risky removing things that I might still need.

Unfortunately, Violin II and Cello II have no "cut release" versions of their Fast Reps patches.  Not so much a missing articulation as a missing feature, but as far as I can tell Synchron Player doesn't have a way to disable release samples, so in other libraries VSL included "cut release" versions of fast rep patches.  Not so in SYN-zed Solo Strings, unfortunately...

FYI, I'm fairly certain the short articulations of Synchron Strings I and Synchron Strings Pro are the same samples.  Don't take that as 100%, as I'm going off memory here, but I seem to recall Paul or someone else saying as much in one of the threads about it when it was released...?...

It was said, a long time ago!!!, that the instrument where sharing samples if you put then in a VIENNA ENSEMBLE  PRO

Is it still the case ? VSL ONLY KNOWS !

That has been my experience, only those two are intact regarding both articulation set and sound.
