I see that if a user owns Synchron Strings I & Pro, they can use the optimized content. I do not have any disk space issues, but I am concerned using the optimized content since redundant samples are being removed. Are these samples 100% the same with similar velocity layers etc? If I don't use optimized content, what issues will I face other than redundant samples?

The Optimized Sample Content has been optimized to save maximum disk space, here is an overview.
The articulations displayed in bold are contained in the Optimized version.
If you don't use the optimized content, the only downside is redundant samples.

I wish VSL will re-consider this, and include them in the Optimized version.

If that is the case, this is a huge dealbreaker! In fact, then they are not redundant at all! Having different velocity layers does not make them equal. As a matter of fact, I would expect Synchron Strings Pro to be the ones with more velocity layers. I mean they are labeled "Pro". Professionals want more, not less.
For this reason, I am daring use the optimized content. Absolutely not.

Not including the shorts is the primary reason I didn't install the Optimized version. The shorts to me are the best sounding, and most useful articulations that can improve Synchron Strings Pro, not the legatos.
I see. I cannot agree more. My question to you, (since I am only now beginning to use Synchron libraries), Having both libraries what challenges that this presents in your production in regards to articulation switching? In other words, having both, is the drawback just more HD space?

Since I got Synchron Strings Pro, I deleted Synchron Strings I (Full) from my SSD. So, I'm not using it, that's why I would like to get the Optimized version of Synch. Str I , if it included the shorts. I do not like the Legatos in Synchron Strings I, the Legatos of Synchron Strings Pro are much better. So, I have no desire to use Synch. Strs. I longs/legatos.
I use Studio One Pro 5, which has the Sound-Variation feature very nicely integrated with VSL Synchron Player, so they automatically appear in S1 Pro 5, and even if I have my own custom patches, with articulations in the Tree, they automatically populate the Sound-Variations of S1 Pro 5. So, Articulation management is fantastic. You just select the notes you want and assign the articulation you need for them from the Sound-Variation list window.
I'm not sure what DAW you use, but Studio One Pro 5 has imho the best articulation management system with VSL Synchron Player, because both companies developed it together to make sure they work perfectly, and communicate bi-directionally.
Great! Thank you for your detailed answer. I use Cubase 11, and also have Vienna Ensemble Pro 7. But with Synchron libraries, I am thinking of using only Cubase.

I cannot thank you enough for introducing me to Studio One Pro 5!!! Oh-my-good. This is exactly what I was looking for, for years. I looove it!! The articulation management is the best as you said!
I am totally DONE WITH CUBASE and their crappy usability and interface.... I can't wait to start composing now some pieces with it!

I'm glad you are discovering how wonderful Studio One Pro 5 is. It is only going to get better, and better. So, you made a wise decision to use it. I used to be a Cubase user, but switched to Studio One Pro when it was at version 3, and never bothered with Cubase any more. Plus, Studio One Pro 5 comes with five software licenses, no need for a dongle. Although You still need a dongle for VSL libraries.
I hope VSL changes their mind, and include the Synchron Strings I shorts in the optimized version.
