I just purchased VSL Horizon Series Solo Strings -- I want to use it with Kontakt 2 and Pro Tools, operating on a Mac G5. I'm told I need the MIDI Cables software, but the downloads area only offers it for PC, not for Mac.

I can't configure Solo Strings to work with Kontakt 2 and Pro Tools without a MIDI software bridge of some sort. I've heard about Maple for this purpose, but it doesn't seem to be available anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your reply, Paul. I did follow the set-up guide for Pro Tools and Kontakt on OSX. When I got to the part about configuring the Performance Tool's MIDI Out-port, I found that the drop menu did not feature the "IAC-Bus 1" which I needed to select to proceed.

I called Ilio, who told me that this was because I did not download the MIDI Router software from your site. But when I tried to do so, I found that the User area of your site only made the MIDI Router software available in PC format, not Mac.

How can I get the MIDI Router software in a Mac compatible format? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,

unfortunately I´m not a Mac guy, but in my understanding the IAC-Busses are provided with Pro Tools Systems.

I have forwarded this question to our Mac-Support and we will find an answer.

Thanks, Paul! I'd like to get the VSL Solo Strings up and running, so that I can get back to work as soon as possible. Hopefully today...?

Do you know why there is only a PC-compatible MIDI router made available through your site? The VSL Solo Strings library is supposed to be compatible with Mac, so you'd think that there would be a Mac-compatible MIDI Router on the download list.

Hi,

good questions basically, I think that different rules apply to all Mac setups and that virtual MIDI cables are normally provided on a Mac music system automatically, but I might be wrong... What I know for sure is that it will work!

Christian Kardeis will answer as soon as possible (it´s past midnight here).

Maybe someone else wants to step in here?

Hi Sheemish,

Despite of my very limited knowledge of Pro Tools in general, may I point your attention to a thread posted by one of our most cherished customers, DSP Bill (may he live long and prosper...), in which he explains how to use Kontakt, the Performance Tool and Pro Tools in Monitor Mode and where he even provided a URL with a step by step instruction including screenshots.

The thread can be found at http://community.vsl.co.at/viewtopic.php?t=4859

In fact, you will not need any additional software or MIDI router, since inter-application Midi or IAC busses are a built-in feature of Mac OS.

And I take the opportunity to quote DSP Bill here once more:

I hope this helps!

Yes! Thank you Marnix, thank you Paul! My VSL Horizon Solo Strings are up and running -- and dear God, they are so beautiful!!! I almost forgot to come back and thank you, because I was caught up in the sheer rapture of playing the legato violin! Heaven! This is solo string heaven!!

Thank you so much for your help! Marnix, the link you gave me was wonderful. DSP Bill is a saint. I am thrilled!
