  • Dave and Becky,

This is a really beautiful piece. I don't know if I am missing the boat completely, but for some reason, I find myself feeling hopeful after viewing it, despite all the harsh truths it points out.. As you know, I've always enjoyed the music but the combination with images and your poetry adds a another dimension altogether. I was especially impressed by the video and photos you used. It seems that music isn't the only art form where talented creators are striving to find an audience for their creations. I'm glad that you could showcase them, too.

All the best to you, and Merry Christmas!

Thanks for viewing it and sharing your comments, Tom!  I, too, am an eternal optimist (with a healthy dose of cynicism thrown in for good measure) and view the future of humanity in a positive light...admittedly with some hiccups along the way.

As for your comment on creators finding audiences, with 8 billion people on the planet, 7.8 billion of them creators themselves, there are very few people left to partake in our art as "spectators."

Just yesterday, a radio program I listened to discussed the idea of bands selling out to major labels and how that fundamentally altered their careers for better or worse.  The guest suggested that selling out is hardly possible in today's climate.  He recounted his own "fandom" of other bands, suggesting how he'll listen to a band he's loved for years on Spotify, but hasn't spent a penny on their music directly.  He then goes on to suggest how there are fans that do that exact thing, but then get angry when their favourite punk band, for example, gets a placement on a commercial and loses their integrity because they've sold their music to some corporation.  He basically concludes that the climate for artists today is untenable.

Merry Christmas to you, Gerrie, and your family!
