Hi Andi,

Maybe good to use different naming layout for instruments!

Hello Bill!

I see what you mean. Dorico 4 displays VST-Plugins completetly different than Dorico 3.5 did. Changing the displayed names for all instruments in all endpoint configurations would be quite time consuming though. And if we do it, there will be no more reference to Synchron Player for Dorico 3.5 users. They will just see the instrument name. I'll put in on my list and think about it.

Best regards,
Andi

My preferred solution would be that Steinberg increased the space available for Endpoint Configuration names. It's not only for VSL sets: the space is very tight for any type of sound library.

Now, try to write "Orchestral Tools Berlin Symphonic Strings"…

Bill,

I developed a personal habit of always changing the Endpoint names to match the VE Pro instances I connect to. For example, my VEP instance Sy Winds becomes the name of the VST rack instrument, easily identifiable in the track inspector and in the selection dropdown.

In addition, I edit the instrument names in Setup mode to reflect the name of it's connected VSL instrument. For example, if my Dorico instrument is connected to Synchron Woodwinds Flute 1, I name it sy Flute 1. That makes it easy to recognize within Dorico what target instrument I am dealing with.

So the Dorico Player I name Flute 1 might be holding Flutes from two different VSL libraries, showing one as "sy Flute 1" and another as "syz Flute 2" from the Synchron-ized Woodwinds library.

I have found these convention most useful.

Yes, I always change the names too. I don't understand the need to say "Vienna Sycnhron Player" etc, as the user would have put it there in the first place.

Looks to me like DaddyO is using Vienna Ensemble, but Bill is using an individual Synchron Player instance for each instrument.
