  • Hanging notes with VEPro, Play and Logic

I am getting a lot of these happening in a project with the same two or three instruments, though usually only one at a time. It's happening mostly in one section of the piece if I start the transport in the middle of the offending region. Usually starting playback before the region starts does not produce the hanging notes. Other Play instruments (Hollywood Orchestra) also produce the hanging if I move the region over to them. I am using a template that I use for every piece which has all my instruments loaded into VEPro on a PC slave (Windows 7) and running Logic on the Mac. I am still using AU2, switching to AU3 for the affected instruments did nothing.

I have tested this with other Play and Logic instruments loaded directly within Logic and I do not get the hanging. So it seems to be something to do with the interplay of Play, VEPro and Logic. I am running the latest version of VEPro, downgrading to the the previous version did not resolve the issue.

I wonder if anyone could shed any light on why this is happening and hopefully how to fix it? Thanks.

  • I too am having this problem. I've just created a new orchestral template using either the "regular" VEP Server 7 plugin, as well a variation on VSL's AU3 Beta template. There are now dropouts and hanging notes (especially hanging sustain pedal occurences) that the latest version of Logic seems to have made worse. It seems that Logic isn't yet ready for VEP7 over a network. Maybe someday.

My workaround: I thought about moving everything VSL back to my DAW machine, but I ended up going back to my Pro Tools 2021.12 template which works shockingly well. I can always sync Logic to Pro Tools via the IAC bus, routing the audio through the UAD Apollo's virtual channels.

  • Thanks for your reply. So this could be a Logic - VEPro 7 problem? Yes perhaps, though I've nothing to compare it to.

I am now only getting it in the winds in this current project for some reason, it can either be a flute, an oboe or a clarinet (Hollywood Orchestral Woodwinds - Play edition). All the other instruments and sections seem fine. When it's happening usually if I stop the transport and then re-start it, I get a couple of quick notes just before the continuous sustained note kicks in, whatever that means. My only workaround has been to click on Stop All Voices in Play but doing this so regularly is not really feasible. However I've simply had to keep soldiering on with the project as I have no choice really..
