  • Is VEPro unusable on a single machine?

I use Cubase 12 and VEPro 7. Before purchasing VEPro, I had a 400 track template in Cubase that work OK...a little slow sometimes, and took about 20s to save. Then I read the marketing from VSL and believed the part that VEPro can run in single-machine configuration and that it would help. I spent weeks setting it up, and now it is totally useless. Every mouse click takes 5-10s. Opening and closing VEPro takes 5 minutes without saving, 7.5 minutes with saving.

Has anyone actually used it successfully on a single machine? If so, what's the secret?

    I have a 2019 Macbook Pro with 64GB.

  • Thousand and thousands of people use it this way...

I'm not  MAC guy, so can't offer any suggestions.

  • One thing that was making everything slow like that for me was that i left on the check for "Release driver when application is in background" under audio system in studio setup in cubase.

You want that check to be off or every time VEP takes the focus, Cubase will release the driver and everything freezes for a few seconds.

I don't have a big template as i am still setting things up but runs very smooth so far, that was the only issue i had and that's how i solved it.

  • Thank you for input. I stumbled across a few people on YouTube who use this setup with all the tracks disabled in VEP. I tried it and it really helps. So I think I am going to keep using VEP (because it does help save times and project file sizes in Cubase), but with all tracks disabled, only enabling the ones I need, and rendering-in-place as the arrangement grows. It's not ideal–I'm not even sure it's worth the time investment into this kind of setup–but it seems like it is going to work ok.

UPDATE: I have disabled all tracks in all instances of VEP, but it is still unusable. Here is a video I prepare showing the same chord progression played through a plugin hosted locally in Cubase (plays perfectly) and then through VEP (only one enabled track...unusable). Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Does anyone else have a suggestion? I emailed VSL support the same video, but there is no response.

  • Hi,

Looks like you're on MIDI Channel 2 with the BBCSO...  What happens if you change it to 1 or send on channel 2 from your sequencer?
Which case number did you get with your support request... I'd like to check what happened.

    Best,
    Paul
