  • iLok conversion failed

    Hello,

I just tried to convert my licenses to my existing iLok but I cannot open any any VSL instruments.  It appeared to convert, but says it is still trying to find the elicenser!  What's wrong? How do I get VSL stuff to recognize the iLok? The new Vienna Assistant says there are 33 items uninstalled! Why would that be?  It also says "there are currently no Vienna products installed on this computer." Do I have to re-download everything? I was hoping this process would be seamless. I have to say, it is more of a nightmare than I ever anticipated.

    Hi Michael,

In a nutshell: You need to download EVERYTHING you see under NOT INSTALLED in your Vienna Assistant, also the sample content for iLok.

This is how to make the switch to iLok, step by step.

Here is more information for you regarding license management with iLok.

Check out the screenshots below the video to learn how to open a cloud session!

  • Hi Paul, I get the following error whenever I try to do what you tutorial shows me. "This license does not have any activations available." I see the licenses but I cannot get any of them to activate. When I load VI Pro it is still trying to find the licenses on the old Vienna key, but I think the conversion removed them, So I cannot even access things that way. If I could attach screen caps I could show you, But it doesn't look like I can attach anything to this post. I'm in limbo at this point and cannot open anything. Please let me know how I can contact you or someone at VSL by email so I can send screen caps. I honestly have no idea what's going on, I'm a composer, not an IT guy! :-) At the top of the iLok manager it say I have 56 licenses, then in the cloud area it says I have 47 activations. Maybe they are already activated?!?!?! If so I do not know how to access them. Do I need to direct VI Pro to the cloud some how? I would actually rather use them directly from my iLok key rather than the cloud (clouds go down sometimes) but I cannot figure out how to do it. Could it be that I need to download a different version of all the software as well (e.g. VI Pro, MIR, etc.)? Again, please let me know how I can contact someone who can ofer more infor than I am finding in the tutorials. Thanks, Mike I would prefer having my licenses on a local drivelike my iLok key) instead of the cloud. Can you use both? Also when I try to activate a licenses

  • Hi Paul,

I think I finally got the iLok portion working, but when I open the new VI Pro nothing shows up. How do I populate VI Pro?

  • Hi Michael,

The Vienna Assistant takes care of all iLok installation. So if your "Not installed" tab is empty, you are good to go.
With specific questions, it makes sense to contact support@vsl.co.at, best with screenshots of the components and some information about your setup.

    Hi Paul

Sorry to be such a pain in the butt, BUT...I'm still a bit unclear about the function of Vienna Assistant vs iLok Manager.  iLok Manager says  (at the very top) "56 licenses" but the Cloud say "47 activations."  However, Vienna Assistant says I have 32 items "not installed." Why is there a discrepancy between the two? If I do  reinstall of the 32 will that finally make them available in VI Pro? Also, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, do I need to uninstall the existing files when I do an installation of the  "not installed" items, or will they over write? I don't want to do anything until I know the answer to that. I guess I don't understand why I need to download almost everything.  Shouldn't this have been taken care of when I converted the licenses from the VI key to iLok?

Next question: I'd like to be able to use both the iLok Cloud and the iLok physical key. How do I distinguish between the two? Once I finally get things installed how do I choose whether my VI software (VI Pro, VEP, MIR, etc.) is looking for licenses in the Cloud or on the Key?

Last stupid question (for not at least). I already own MIR but I noticed that my version is not listed on the VI Software page. I only see Vienna MIR Pro 3D. Does this mean I'll need to purchase a new version of MIR?

THANK YOU for sticking with me during this!!

    Mike

    Hi Paul,

I am downloading all "not installed" files now. The software is easy to install as they are just .exe files.  But what about the instrument file? DO I have to use the old Vienna Download Manager to install them, or is that somehow done in Vienna Assistant as well.  I'm VERY confused about why I need to re-install everything.  I get that I need to put all licenses on the iLok, but why do I need to install all the huge instrument  files again? Just downloading them takes forever. I thought that the conversion from Vienna Key to iLok was supposed to be quick and easy.  Am I doing something wrong? Do I really need to reinstall all instrument library files? I am not able to find anything on the tutorial videos that answer these questions.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

We have updated all sample content and crypted it again with the iLok licenses, that's why it's necessary to download everything again.

This is actually the second question of our iLok FAQs.

    Best,
    Paul
