  • Content of new Dorico installer

Yesterday, the installer files for Dorico have been updated in the notation related download area. Which changes have been applied? Are there any fixes for Macs/Synchron products?

  • Hi RaPaSa!

The new VSL for Dorico Installer includes new expression maps and playback templates for our SYNCHRON-ized Voices series.

In addition it includes fixes for harp harmonics. What kind of fixes were you thinking of?

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi,

Is there any chance that these updates will someday appear in the VA?

  • Hi Bill!

If you mean that the updated installer should be included in Vienna Assistant, that is already the case. If you mean that you want a changelog for the installer, I will have to talk to our developer about it.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Really? I've never seen it there, nor seen it listed in the updates. Are we both talking about the Dorico expression maps Installer?

  • Hi Bill!

Please look in the Vienna Assistant under Additionals/Notation.

    Hi Andi,

thanks for clarification. I was thinking of SY Woodwinds. Let's say, I choose one of the playback templates with SY Strings Pro, SY Woodwinds, SY Brass (e.g. VSL Synchron Strings Pro, SYzd Solo Strings, SY Woodwinds, SY Brass and SY Harp) and would like to use one of the high woodwinds, I only find SY Woodwinds expression maps for Bassoons/Bass Clarinet, Bassoons-3, Contrabassoons and Ensembles, but nothing called similar to VSL SY Woodwinds mentioned in the playback template at third position after Sy Strings Pro and SYzd Solo Strings. For other libraries such as SYzd, SYzd SE or Prime there is an expression map for high woodwinds available.

Is there a recommendation which playback template/expression maps should be used in that context or will there be anything added?

    Thanks and regards,
    RaPaSa

  • Hi RaPaSa!

With the Dorico playback template that you have mentioned, the high woodwinds expression map for Synchron Woodwinds should get assigned automatically. I'm on a vacation right now, so can't look up the exact name of the expression map. It might have "SYzd" in the name, because it works for the SYNCHRON-ized Woodwinds as well.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi,

thanks for your suggestion, will check this out though I find it a little bit misleading to sometimes have the product name and sometimes have to use any other map. Maybe this is something that  can be improved by delivering a map with the correct name?

    Have a nice vacation!

    Kind regards,
    RaPaSa

  • It's named "VSL SY Prime - High Woodwinds"

  • Hi Bill and RaPaSa!

The exact name of the expression map RaPaSa was looking for is "VSL SYzd Woodwinds - High woodwinds". The expression map Bill has mentioned is for the Synchron Prime Edition.

If you apply our playback templates, the correct expression maps get assigned automatically. If you are in doubt, you can always check out the descriptions of our expression maps. They describe in detail which library or libraries they are made for.

    Best regards,
    Andi

    Hi Bill,

thanks for your reply. The Prime Edition woodwinds unfortunately do not work for me as they have a limited number of articulations - I need e.g. trills and flautando which is not part of the Prime edition.

    RaPaSa

    Hi Andi,

thanks for your reply. The hint with the description in the expression map is really helpful, I was not aware of that before. I am using "VSL SYzd Woodwinds - High woodwinds" now but still have some problems with this expression map regarding the espressivo setting. I added a dynamic followed by suffix espressivo, but it will keep triggering the type "Regular" instead of "Espressivo". Is Espressivo supported in the expression map and if so, how would I have to notate it in Dorico so that it gets triggered?

    Thanks and regards,
    RaPaSa

  • Hi RaPaSa!

The Synchron Woodwinds Espressivo articulations are not supported by our Dorico expression maps. Of course you can always enhance the expression maps. You may need custom playing and playback techniques to do so.

    Best regards,
    Andi
