  • M1/M2 native compatibility of VSL Synchron Pianos

    Hello,

I know that it must have been discussed already in some threads but I would finally like to get some time line for native M1/M2 compatibility of Synchron Pianos.

Here is a bit of background. I have a specific setup - I use Roland FP-90X digital piano as a MIDI controller but at the same time it constitutes a Digital Audio Interface for my computer (I use one USB cable that carries MIDI signal to the computer running VSL software and carries back digital signals to DAC of FP-90X; I use its amp and speakers as well and I use Local Control OFF). Anyway my PC (12 core Intel Xeon and 64GB RAM) did not work. There was an unacceptable delay between pressing a key and the sound. I worked with support to address the issues but the problem was not resolved. I need to use my old MacBook Air (Intel based) that unfortunately is below required specs although in reality it works very well. I want to upgrade to a Mac Mini, MacBook Pro or even Mac Studio but obviously I am not going to get an Intel based system

Unfortunately there is still no native M1/M2 compatibility of Synchron pianos and I am not going to use Rosetta.

It have been almost TWO YEARS since M1 architecture was introduced.  How long can it take to recompile the software packages (I was a hardware/software engineer before I retired)? I am surprised and disappointed  to say the least.

My question is about planned M1 native compatibility of VSL products.

    Thank you,

    Michael

  • Hi Michael,

    Thanks for your message.

I agree, it will be great to have a M1 Silicone compatible version of all our software products, and I hope it will be available soon.

How soon? I can only tell you when it has passed our tests.

    Thanks for your patience!

    Best,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

as a fairly new VSL customer, I want to point out, how flawless the transition to iLok has been. As a Software Developer myself (with musical ambitions) I congrats you and your colleagues to this great achievement across all Software Products. I certainly wouldn't have become a customer with the old USB dongle system. 👍

I love all the instruments, especially the Pianos and the Strings. Recently, I discovered MIR Pro 3D, another great product. Together with your enthusiastic presentation there is (almost) nothing to complain about.

As an owner of a brand new Mac Studio Ultra with 128 GB RAM, I can't wait to use all products without Rosetta. To be honest: With this kind of horse power, there shouldn't be any performance problems. But with Logic and 2-3 instruments (especially with Pianos) I experience them (unfortunately) very early.

In my current state of discovery, this is not such a big deal, but sooner or later I will have a productive application for the Instruments and MIR Pro in a much broader scale than 2 or 3 tracks.

As you saw with the iLok transition, investing time in backlog tasks and quality assurance will pay off. So I agree with Michael and also hope that all products will be ready for the new Macs quite soon.

    All the best,
    Sascha

I know I'm being impatient. I know you were busy with the iLok tranistion. Still, I really hope to see apple silicon native support soon. After all, it's been 2.5 years since Apple released the ARM developer kits at WWDC and my fully specced MacBook Pro live machine has quite some troubles running the Synchron Pianos properly through Rosetta. I just bought the Fazioli because it sounds absolutely gorgeous - and I wanna bring it to the stage in 2023. Pretty please 😛

    Hi!

Until the plugins are natively compatible, feel free to try this approach, which can dramatically help with performance for the Synchron Pianos when working with multiple mic positions - regardless of Rosetta Mode.

    Synchron Pianos: CPU Tip

This works with every host and, of course, with the standalone player.

    Best,
    Andreas
