The Vienna Instruments Library is just wonderful.

Equipment used for this recording;

-The Vienna Instruments Library Stand Alone Software.

-Komplete Kontrol S88 Piano Keyboard.

-My Old HP Compaq running Windows XP and Samplitude Multitrack Recording Software.

Thanks for listening and hope all are well and enjoying recording with the Vienna Library.

Very commendable effort in reproducing this piece. Thanks for sharing.

While I appreciate you must have put a lot of work into this, and there are some moments of great realism, I should be frank in saying that this makes me realize how far far far away sample libraries are to a real recording of classical works.

Hello Anand,

Thank you for your comments.  I greatly appreciate you taking the time to write.

I agree with you 100%.  I have only been to a few concerts in my life, but that is enough to know that sample libraries do not really come close to the sound a great group of incredibly talented musicians can produce.  I have read the music and recorded all the parts for Pictures At An Exhibition also, and while learning a lot about how these great composers wrote the music, I (as a rock drummer most of my life) can only come woefully close to the expression that a bunch of great musicians and their conductors can express.

Thank you again for the contact.

Agitato I don't agree with that at all.  (Though I usually like your posts here!)  There are many examples of MIDI that are actually BETTER than live orchestra. One thing that is always happening is people compare a normal MIDI performance to the greatest orchestra in the world and then immediately exclaim "Listen! It's nowhere near as good!"  The reality is very few orchestras can play as well as VSL.  In fact, none of the live orchestras that ever did any of my music can begin to compare.

Hi Minardi,

You did a really good job on this!  And it is interesting to hear how long it took you.  You have inspired me!

Hello Splendiforous,

Thank you so much for your kind words. I am very glad you enjoyed it.  Yes, it did take a long time, but I wanted to make sure that I did "justice" to this wonderful piece of music.

I have always enjoyed orchestral music even though I played in rock bands most of my life.  The Vienna Library has made it possible for me to compose my own music and to perform and record the orchestral pieces I have always loved. The recording process I use does take a long time but I am retired and have time to work on it.  I don't like jigsaw puzzles which some retired people like to work on, so I do this instead.

Thanks again,

John A. Minardi
