  • [SOLVED] Lines of text omitted when using "Print to PDF" for manuals

I've noticed that several lines of text can get omitted when a chapter of a user manual is saved to pdf using the "Print (to PDF)" option offered with manuals. This omission, which seems to occur only between pdf pages, can be seen in the "Print to pdf" drop-down preview of the pdf; exactly the same loss of text appears in the resulting saved pdf when viewed in the Mac's Preview app.

I'm trying to construct a combined pdf for a whole manual, which is pretty easy to do using the "Edit/Insert/Page_from_file" option in the Mac's Preview. But this omitted text issue is a show stopper. Maybe someone knows a workaround?

Attached screenshot shows an example from the "Installation" chapter of the MIR Pro 3D manual:- the contents of the "Important" box are completely lost between pages 1 and 2 of the pdf being saved for this chapter. I've seen similar loss of text between pdf pages when saving other chapters of this manual.

  • Hi Macker!

Thanks for the report. I have updated the site right now to improve this.
You might have to click on the refresh-button while holding the shift key to avoid loading old data from your browser's cache.

  • Ben, super job!

It's all lovely now and I can go ahead with constructing big PDFs for whole manuals as I'd planned.

    Many thanks!

P.S. I can appreciate that it's convenient for VSL to update manuals, in their current format as individual chapter files on the VSL site, as and when necessary. And of course it's entirely my responsibility to keep my all-chapters pdf manuals on my computer up to date, though I'm sure this will involve a lot of faffing around. Hoping one day to see a single file on the VSL site for each manual!

  • UPDATE

Aahh dammit, it's still happening elsewhere, Ben!

I only checked the "Installation" chapter of the MIR Pro 3D manual pdf preview and the saved pdf, and saw there the good result of your fix. Then I went ahead and joined all the chapters of this manual in one pdf file, before I noticed another instance of several dozen words omitted - this time between pages 1 and 2 in the "Preferences" chapter when saved as pdf.

Attached screenshot shows this omission in the "Print to PDF" preview panel as used on the website; loss of several dozen words after the "General" heading at the bottom of pdf page 1, and before the body of text as printed at the top of pdf page 2.

I've now spotted many other instances of this loss of text between pdf pages, in various chapters of this manual.

  • Hi!

Sorry for the delay, I've missed your last post.
I have just added a fix for that as well, like previously you might have to reload the page.

  • Many thanks, Ben. I'll get back into it as soon as I get a moment.

  • Works for me!

I now have one 43 page pdf manual for new MIR, stowed away on my machine. Having checked all through, visually comparing my saved and conjoined pdf pages with corresponding chapter files on the website as rendered by Chrome, I've not spotted any missing info now.

    Thanks to you Ben!

  • Great to hear! Thanks for your feedback.
