  • Program Changes in Pro Tools for VI Pro

These videos show that it is possible to select cells in a VI Pro matrix using program changes in Pro Tools. In the videos, I think the person is using CherryPicker to create a midnam file. But since CherryPicker doesn't work on newer operating systems, we cannot do what is shown in the video.

Can anybody shed any light on this? How can we modify an existing midnam file to control a matrix in VI Pro?

Or, does anybody have a midnam file that changes the cells in a VI Pro matrix that they could share?

I have been able to create middev and midnam files, so that articulations show up in the program change automation lane in Pro Tools (See attached screenshot). Now I'm trying to figure out how to change the midnam file so that individual cells in a matrix can be selected.

    Thank you for any assistance.

  • You can change VI to use a CC instead of program change

  • I currently use CCs 3 and 4 to change cells in a matrix (and thereby, articulations). This requires making a selection on the timeline, and then adjusting CC3 to the correct value for the chosen articulation. It can be a bit tedious.

I would like to use the program change function in Pro Tools instead of a continuous controller because it would be faster, as I would simply have to click in the program change automation lane with the pencil, and then select the chosen articulation from a list in the window that pops up (based on the midnam file). Also, I would be able to see the articulation name in the program change lane, which is very useful, and is not possible with a continuous controller.
