  • MIR Pro 3D: Locking instruments & another ideas

While I really enjoy the new MIR Pro, I find it very difficult to work with sometimes.

Here are some new thoughts and ideas:

    • Especially positioning instruments near the microphones is difficult. I always select the microphone and move it unintentionally. Is there a way to lock the position? I think in the old MIR Pro the instrument icons appeared above the microphones, but can't remember.
    • I also don't know where the center of the venue is ... is it clear what I mean? It's always moving. Maybe you could implement a feature to bring back a quasi 2D view, or a button to bring the viewpoint back to the center? Maybe I'm overlooking something.
    • The last one I already wrote to the support team some time ago. I mainly use the Synchron Stage venue and it's a bit โ€œboringโ€, especially in 3D view it doesn't offer much. The older 2D textures/illustrations looked nicer to me. Maybe you could integrate back and side walls with lamps and wainscoting. ;)

  • Hi Pixelpoet,

Yes, the 3D view implies some new approaches in the handling of Icons directly on the stage of a MIR Venue. Especially for Icons near the Main Microphone, it may be necessary to either change the viewing angle of the Venue Map, or to use the display for coordinates and rotations in the Instrument Panel on the right side:

For easier orientation you can always Ctrl-couble-click anywhere in the Venue Map to go back to "bird's eye view".

I'm not sure why you liked the old 2D Venue maps better - so far everyone I've spoken to has been absolutely amazed by the new look - but I'll keep your comment in mind. Thanks a lot!

    Enjoy MIR 3D,

  • Thanks!

But could you please introduce a feature to lock the microphones? That would be very helpful. Maybe with a little padlock icon...?

And I also would welcome a feature to customize the visibility of the grid. On the Synchron Stage it's barely visible. Maybe with a slider...?

    Concerning the design:
Maybe it's because I'm a media designer. ;) In my opinion, the old 2D ones remind me of (hi-res) illustrations in books, while the 3D ones look a bit "cheap", because of the flat and simple textures. The old ones looked more organic to me. For comparison: It's the same with Apple and it's skeuomorphism. Don't understand me wrong, I'm totally fine with the other venues, but the Synrchon Stage is really a bit "boring".

  • Hi Pixelpoet1985,

When I want to move an instrument close to the microphones I temporary place the Microphone in an other place. Like change from conductor to third row or balcony. Chang the instrument position and place the microphone back. Works for me.

  • That's one possibility - you might lose the Mic's position- and rotation-offsets like that, though. I suggest to type in values for those cases where the Icon gets too close too a mic to make sense:

    Hi,

Really enjoying using MIR Pro 3D here. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

A couple of ideas I had were brighter labels for selected instruments and more visible magic eye MIDI activity. And a 'Hide' function that hides all instruments within a certain proximity to the selected instrument. As selecting those tiny little squares can get very tricky. Also, a global 'Hide Stereo Width' would be nice. It would definitely clean up a cluttered stage. I know I should use the small UI more but it kind of takes the joy out of using MIR TBH.

  •

Thank you for the kind feedback and for your suggestions! Some of them might indeed make sense, but I don't really understand what you mean by "brighter labels for selected instruments". Doesn't a selected Icon look like this to you ...? (s. attachment)

    ๐Ÿ˜ฎ What venue is that?!!!

Yes it does. But on a stage with Dimension Strings, all the VI woods, brass, percussion and choirs, and combined with my tendency to select lighter colours, it is quite hard to see. Also, The label of the selected instrument does not get priority over the surrounding instruments. It is often obscured by other labels.

I see. In that case I suggest to Ctrl-click the "H"ide-button of the selected Icon in the "Instruments" panel (which can be detached from the main GUI, BTW). This will hide all Icons except the selected one. Use Alt additionally when you want to keep a bunch of selected Icons visible. ... and don't forget that there are now "Groups" in MIR 3D which allow for the linking of selected parameters only, e.g. "Hide":
