  • Slow Loading/Crashes with VSL Full Library on MacBook Air M2

    Hello,

Wondering if some other people are experiencing similar issues as I am. I have a MacBook Air M2 with 2TB OS drive and 24 GB memory. I have the VSL Synchron Full Library and I am using Logic Pro X. My OS is Monterrey 12.5. My entire VSL library is on an 8TB PCIe M.2 Gen 4 external drive connected with Thunderbolt 4 at 7000+ MB/s read speed.

When working in Logic Pro (I have not tried yet with other DAWs), I have no problem with the initial few tracks. When I reach around 15-20 tracks, I start having long load times for not only each instance of the Synchron player, but also when re-opening my Logic project file. On reload, I have to play my tracks 3 to 5 times before all samples are loaded and play correctly. Sometimes, it gets to a point where Logic crashes all together (or rather, I force-quit after several minutes of unresponsiveness). Logic is flagged to run under Rosetta, because without it, it's even worse apparently.

In Logic, my I/O Buffer Size is set to 1024. My Process Buffer Range is set to Large. Processing Threads is set to Automatic.

Given my hardware/software configuration, I was expecting to be able to easily load a much larger number of tracks before running into problems.

Is there anything that can be done? If you had similar issues, how did you resolve them? One of my friends has an older and less powerful Mac, only 16GB of memory, and he can load 40+ tracks VSL Synchron Standard Library. Is the fact that I am licensed for the FULL library a factor in these performance issues?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
