  • Problem since updating VEPro 7

I have just updated all VEPro 7 related software to the latest versions, including VEPro itself, the Synchron Player and iLok Licence Support software. I had a job getting the latter to install but eventually got there by finding and installing a seemingly necessary Windows (7) update from Microsoft. Now everything seems to be working ok in that I can load Play and the Synchron Player into VEPro instances and also load and play the relevant instruments.

The only problem is whenever I try to load a previously saved project (saved under the older VEPro version and using Play 6 with Hollywood Orchestra) I get the following error: "The project you are trying to load is invalid." This happens if I try to load a server project or any previously saved instances which use Play. This means I cannot load my template or any project based on it. Nor can I load the individual instances based on that template, which I saved separately.

I hope there is a way around this because I do not want to have to re-build my entire template just because of a software update!

I would be grateful for any help in sorting this out. Thanks.

Edit: I only just noticed the thread above asking us to roll back to the previous versions of VEPro and the Synchron player. It was late at night when I was troubleshooting this but since I updated everything from the Assistant, I presume the available versions were ok? I’m not at the computer right now but will check the installed versions.

  • I just checked and it’s VEPro version 7.1.1406 that is installed on my system. That should work, right? However I am still getting the same error and cannot load any of my projects or instances. I’ll have to try an earlier version but meanwhile if anyone can shed light in this I would appreciate it as I can’t work with this version. Could the problem be that I’m still on Windows 7, though earlier versions worked fine?

Everything seems to be working with iLok now, confirmed that yesterday. Any problems likely with that? Play is on the latest version.

    Hi Marcus,

Windows 7 reached its end of life about three years ago. There has been no testing - leave alone programming or optimization - since then for Windows 7.

The build v1427 you mentioned was removed some weeks ago, that's correct.

    Happy New Year,
    Andreas

  • Thanks for your reply Andreas. Yes I am aware that Windows 7 is no longer supported. However everything was working perfectly up until last night when I migrated to iLok. Now every project or saved instance I try to load brings the same error. I even tried updating eLicenser to the latest version as someone suggested in another thread but that didn’t work for me, though it did for a couple of people. As I am not the only person who has experienced this problem I assume it is not necessarily to do with Windows 7, though of course it might be. I’m going to try and roll back to a much earlier version of VEPro and see if that helps.

  • I just tried rolling back to the oldest available version, 7.1.1263 and I’m getting the same error so I might as well go back to 7.1.1426.

So do you think the problem might be that the combination of iLok and VEPro might not work properly under Windows 7? I’ll upgrade to W. 10 or 11 if needs be but I have stayed on 7 because it was all working fine up till now. Also, my Mac being a bit old can only run up to High Sierra and I’m a bit concerned that it won’t communicate well with the latest Windows for the purposes of running my master/slave setup.

Edit: I re-installed the latest VEPro version. I can create, save and re-load a new project containing a couple of Play instances but I still cannot load any old projects, including my template. This is disastrous.

    Hi Marcus,

The "project invalid" issue usually points towards a conflict between old and new components when converting the project data from eLicenser to iLOK.

FAQ: Project conversion from eLicenser to iLOK

Make sure you install everything from the NOT INSTALLED tab and also install the latest eLicenser software to check if plugging in the existing eLicenser key makes a difference.

    > I just tried rolling back to the oldest available version...

The last eLicenser build is v7.0.1120 from Nov 2021

    > So do you think the problem might be[...] Windows 7?

Might be - your guess is as good as ours. You are using an operating system that was discontinued a long time before software development started for the iLOK transition.

    > Also, my Mac is a bit older and can only run up to High Sierra...

Some of our plugins already require macOS 10.14 as a minimum. With the upcoming updates, that will also be the case for VE Pro 7 and other VSL plugins.

    > As I am not the only person who has experienced this problem...

These issues dated back to shortly after the transition from eLicenser to iLOK and were fixed in a series of updates throughout last year.

    Best regards,
    Andreas

  • Hi Andreas

Many thanks for getting back to me. I'll reply properly by email as I think this is more of a support issue than a forum topic.
