  • VEP 7.2.1515 is forcing an upgrade to Mojave - question about that

I've been running a 2009 Mac Pro with High Sierra as my slave machine, and it's worked perfectly... up until the latest VEP release, which will only install on Mojave or later. (I did a firmware update on that 2009 Mac Pro from 4,1 to 5,1, which is how I was able to get it to upgrade to High Sierra.) I have discovered a software tool that will allow me to upgrade the macOS on that machine to Mojave, but then I noticed that, in addition to the latest Mojave version, "Intel Core i3" is listed as a requirement for VEP 7 compatibility. The machine in question has a 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor configuration. While I realize that's not officially supported, can anyone tell me, will it work at all? VEP 7 has been working fine on that machine under High Sierra—it's only the latest VEP 7 release that is forcing me to upgrade the macOS.

    Thanks,

    Peter

  • Hi Peter,

The only way to find out is to give it a try. You can always roll back.

  • I tried the upgrade, and the latest release of VEP 7 seems to be working fine, to anyone who might be considering trying this. Only thing is that the 2009/10 Mac Pro is noticeably more sluggish over screen sharing, but I loaded up a large VEP 7 session using it as a slave, and it worked totally fine. (I have a monitor switcher so the screen sharing issue doesn't matter to me.) Wouldn't use it as a master machine, but for its purpose—life is extended! CAVEAT: You need to do the recommended macOS security update after installing Mojave or odd things will happen.
